For YEARS they’ve told us that “Body positivity” doesn’t mean embracing unhealthy lifestyles… it means telling people to love themselves for who they are.
I’m cool with that. YOU are not your body. You shouldn’t base your opinion of yourself on your body. You are so much MORE than your body. Your body is a vessel. Your body is a tool… Being overweight doesn’t mean you’re any less valuable of a person. What your body looks like is absolutely unrelated to your worth as a human being. But if you TRULY love and care for yourself… you’ll want to keep that vessel in the best condition you can. That’s my two cents.
The Body Positivity movement doesn’t agree with me. You should love yourself BECAUSE you’re fat. FAT IS BEAUTIFUL.
And you know… a lot of fat people actually eat “REALLY healthy diets!” They’re just BIG BONED or have undiagnosed thyroid issues and it’s not right to “shame them” by suggesting they eat healthy foods and get regular exercise! THEY ALREADY EAT SO HEALTHY OMG.
(PS some people DO have thyroid issues, and I feel for them. But you really want to tell me that everyone who’s overweight has some sort of undiagnosed medical mystery? Really?)
Enter “Lardi B.”
This chick’s parody song of Cardi B’s “Like it Like That” explains how people like that she’s fat… and what exactly it takes to keep up her rotund shape:
I’ll give her this… it’s catchy.
In fact, it’s pretty funny.
It’s what’s in the comments that makes me “huuuuh?”

Actually… not even close. There’s GOOD food for your body, and there’s BAD food for your body. Eating grilled chicken, salad, and a handful of nuts for dinner is REALLY DIFFERENT that eating a bag of Doritos and a 32oz coke.
All food is NOT equal.
But somehow, our society has decided it’s not ok to tell people that.
You know, because of “fat shaming.”

…ok then.

“studies show obesity isn’t unhealthy.”
What studies, exactly?

What was that about “glorifying unhealthy lifestyles?”
Oh, right. This.

Yup… AWESOME role model!
And of course, the “skinny girls are all miserable” trope comes out in full force:

There’s a LOT MORE where that came from.
Anyway… the rest of the comment section is a bunch of people talking about how they’re medically obese and SO MUCH HEALTHIER than those evil, miserable skinny people.
Ok, whatever.
You’re wrong. But you know… BODY POSITIVITY!
It’s just frustrating how misinformation now PERMEATES common thought… because it’s just NOT OK to tell people that being fat isn’t healthy.
