Uber Driver Shoots And Kills Man Who Cut Him Off – Sheriff Explains Why He Was TOTALLY Justified

Ok guys, so here’s the scoop:

Jason Boek and his girlfriend get in a huge fight at a bar. They text each other nasty things, and she tells him she’s leaving.

She then walks her friend into an Uber, (driven by Robert Westlake) and goes back into the bar.

Boek thinks she’s IN the Uber (nope. She’s still in the bar) and FOLLOWS the Uber in a fit of rage.

He then cuts the Uber off, gets OUT of his truck, and threatens to SHOOT THE DRIVER WHO HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH ANY OF THIS.

…Westlake (the Uber driver) was armed himself.

I think you see where this is going.

Boek died of his injuries.

I think the VAST majority of us think the driver did the right thing. If someone comes at me with his arms outstretched like that screaming “You know I got a pistol? You want me to f*cking shoot you?” after cutting me off on a dark road… you better BELIEVE I’d protect myself.

And the Sheriff agrees. This guy was COMPLETELY justified in his actions.

According to this:

Westlake, a licensed armed security guard, has a concealed weapon permit and had just completed training to be a police officer.

“All that went through my head was I’m not getting shot and that’s when I popped up,” he said.

A father of three, with a baby on the way, Westlake told ABC affiliate WFTS-TV that he thought about who would take care of his family before shooting Boek.

“Everybody tells me what I did was right, but you feel like, ‘Did I have to?’ after the fact,” he told WFTS. “I wish the whole chain of events didn’t happen.”

I understand his feelings of guilt… no one WANTS to end a human’s life… but there is NO QUESTION he did the right thing. He defended his life AND that of his passenger.

But he didn’t ask for ANY of this. So I get it – being thrust into this situation would be difficult on anyone.

As it turns out Jason Boek wasn’t armed. He was holding out his cellphone PRETENDING to have a gun… which is absolutely asinine. Again… the loss of a life is sad… but the Uber driver did EXACTLY the right thing.

And the Sheriff agrees:

But Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd is backing Westlake’s play all the way.

“This is a justifiable homicide all day long. You have the right protect yourself,” Judd said. “This was the intent of the law.”

No charges will be filed against him.
