Avital Ronell is (or was) a lesbian feminist professor at NYU. She’s been suspended by the university for allegedly sexually harassing a gay married student. The former student, Nimrod Reitman, 34, claims that Ronell, 66, sexually harassed him for three years. It started when he was a student back in 2012.
Two year’s after graduation Reitman filed a Title IX suit, investigating Ronell’s alleged misconduct against Reitman which he says was ‘sufficiently pervasive to alter the terms and conditions of [his] learning environment.’
In the Title IX final report, obtained by The New York Times, Reitman revealed dozens of emails in which she referred to him as ‘my most adored one,’ ‘Sweet cuddly Baby,’ ‘cock-er spaniel,’ and ‘my astounding and beautiful Nimrod.’
Gross.
Nimrod claims Avital (I’m sorry, but what is WITH these names?) kissed and touched him and forced him into her bed, and I’m just wondering how or why he was even in the vicinity of her bed. Did she invite HIM over, and did he comply?
Here’s what allegedly happened:
Reitman says the harassment began in the spring of 2012 when Ronell invited him to stay with her in Paris for a few days.
He said she first asked him to read poetry to her while she took a nap, which he thought was a ‘red flag’, but went along with it as to not ‘make a scene’.
Reitman says she then pulled him into her bed.
‘She put my hands onto her breasts, and was pressing herself – her buttocks – onto my crotch,’ he said. ‘She was kissing me, kissing my hands, kissing my torso.’
He claims she basically harassed him and threatened to not work with him if he didn’t give in to her desires.
“Our communications – which Reitman now claims constituted sexual harassment – were between two adults, a gay man and a queer woman, who share an Israeli heritage, as well as a penchant for florid and campy communications arising from our common academic backgrounds and sensibilities.
These communications were repeatedly invited, responded to and encouraged by him over a period of three years.”
I’m also very confused by the fact that she was into him even though she’s a lesbian. I guess that’s why she’s going by “queer” now. It gives more flexibility.
Anyway, there was an investigation, and the university found her guilty of sexual harassment and decided to suspend her. In response, “50 scholars and prominent feminists from around the world” sent a letter to NYU, defending Avital. After all, she’s “one of the very few philosopher-stars of this world.”
‘Although we have no access to the confidential dossier, we have all worked for many years in close proximity to Professor Ronell,’ the professors wrote in a letter posted on a philosophy blog in June. ‘We have all seen her relationship with students, and some of us know the individual who has waged this malicious campaign against her.’

‘We testify to the grace, the keen wit, and the intellectual commitment of Professor Ronell and ask that she be accorded the dignity rightly deserved by someone of her international standing and reputation,’ the professors wrote.
I generally don’t trust rabid feminists, so this letter means nothing to me.
Reitman’s lawyer said he and his client have drafted a lawsuit against NYU and Ronell.
Moral of the story: Don’t accept an invitation from your weirdo lesbian feminist professor. Better yet, don’t take a CLASS taught by a lesbian feminist professor. What wisdom could she POSSIBLY bestow?
