Apple, Facebook And Spotify Crack Down On InfoWars And Alex Jones

Facebook has been under fire for refusing to explain why it hasn’t banned InfoWars from its platform. Well, I guess the heat is getting to ’em, because it’s starting to take action. Facebook has banned four pages run by Alex Jones including the Alex Jones Channel Page, the Alex Jones Page, the Infowars Page and the Infowars Nightly News Page.

If you recall, Jones was recently suspended from Facebook for “his role in posting violating content to these pages.”

“More content from the same pages has been reported to us – upon review, we have taken it down for glorifying violence, which violates our graphic violence policy, and using dehumanizing language to describe people who are transgender, Muslims and immigrants, which violates our hate speech policies,” a Facebook spokesperson said, according to The Guardian.

Additionally, Apple has confirmed that it has removed a handful of podcasts related to Alex Jones, including “The Alex Jones Show” as well as four other InfoWars-related podcasts.

Apple’s decision to remove all episodes of Jones’ popular show — rather than just specific offending episodes — is one of the largest enforcement actions intended to curb conspiratorial news content by a technology company to date. Apple did not host Jones’s shows, but it offered an index that allowed anyone with an iPhone to find and subscribe to them. Though Apple is far from Jones and Infowars’ only distribution platform, the decision to pull Jones’ content will considerably limit the outlet’s audio reach — as of 2018, Apple’s Podcasts platform amassed 50 billion all-time downloads and streams.

“Apple does not tolerate hate speech, and we have clear guidelines that creators and developers must follow to ensure we provide a safe environment for all of our users,” a company spokesperson told BuzzFeed News. “Podcasts that violate these guidelines are removed from our directory making them no longer searchable or available for download or streaming. We believe in representing a wide range of views, so long as people are respectful to those with differing opinions.”

Wait. There’s more. Spotify has ALSO removed all episodes of “The Alex Jones Show.” It says some of Jones’ past episodes had violated the company’s “hate content policy.”

I cannot stand Alex Jones, but I have to wonder if this is just the beginning of the “purge.” It makes me SO nervous, because to these people, we (conservatives) are no different than Alex Jones. It begs the question. Who’s next? After all, we’re all Nazis who spread hate day in and day out.

It’s so annoying that Jones is the example here. I HATE that they’re basically taking it upon themselves to police speech and determine what’s “hateful” and what’s not (please catch up on the Candace Owens Twitter drama, and you’ll see why this is so dangerous), but I ALSO never want to be in the position of defending Alex Jones. But these platforms taking it upon themselves to determine what’s “hateful” and what’s not? To these people, “misgendering” someone is “hateful.” Surely, you see where this is going.

Facebook has permanently BANNED Infowars.

For unspecified “hate speech”. They didn’t even tell us what the offending posts were.

This sets a chilling precedent for free speech.

Facebook bans Infowars. Permanently.

Infowars was widely credited with playing a key role in getting Trump elected.

This is a co-ordinated move ahead of the mid-terms to help Democrats.

Now that Facebook has banned Infowars, it will be very interesting to see which conservative news outlets and commentators speak out and which ones remain complicit in silence.
