I can’t believe I’m writing about this. I swear, humanity has gone and lost its mind.
Until today, I’d never heard of Cordero James Brady. And to be honest, I would’ve lived a really full and wonderful life never knowing who this dude is. But alas, I read the Daily Mail today (it’s the second best website on the planet, as you know), and I learned that Cordero James Brady is a YouTubing Dad who has made a crap-ton of money by filming his family and pranking them. Naturally. It’s 2018….everyone’s famous now, dontchaknow. For filming stuff like pretending their children are drowning in a pool:

I can’t. My head is about to explode.
But yes, there are people out there who give Actual Craps what this family does. They watch prank videos that Cordero cranks out to the tune of 5.6 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS OMG WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE GO FUND YOURSELVES A COLLECTIVE LIFE.
Cordero James Brady, 29, from Nevada, runs the YouTube channel CJ SO COOL, which has over 5.6 million followers. The channel is monetized – which means he sells his channel to advertisers, with the more people watching the ads, the more money they stand to make.
Last week his channel was suspended over the vicious practical joke that appeared to have made his children physically sick. The ‘laxative ice cream’ video was permanently removed.
In the vlog, Brady films himself dosing his children’s ice cream with Pedia-Lax and then feeding it to them. He then films 90-minutes later, showing his children screaming and crying in pain.
And this guy is not alone. A lot of people are doing this film-your-kids-and-film-your-lives crap these days. People film themselves playing video games, and instead of going outside and playing (like I did when I was a kid), kids watch them. People film themselves opening and playing with toys on YouTube these days, and instead of talking to other Actual Human Beings or reading books or pursuing hobbies (like I did when I was a kid), people sit in front of their screens and actually watch this nonsense. Kids watch this nonsense. And who do you think oversees the nonsense?
That would be parents. And this is why we’re doomed, y’all.
Listen – it’s one thing for the parents to pimp themselves out. By all means, go for it, Mom and Dad. Do what you need to do. I understand that college is expensive these days – I just helped get two kids through it, so I feel your pain. By all means, if you need to do something super-original like make a duckface and Kardashian-ify yourselves on camera in front of other lobotomized people to make ends meet after you get home from your cubicled gig, get your duckface on. But to pimp our your kid(s)? Pranks or no pranks included?
I’m going to call gross on that.
Even if you truly believe that you’re the new Partridge Family, we all know what happened to those kids. And yes, that tone you’re hearing from me is all sorts of judgey Ms. Judgerpants. Because if you’re putting your kids in front of a camera to be some sort of cash cow for you from the time they’re itty bitty and expecting them to end up halfway normal? There’s a pretty good chance that they’re not going to be “themselves” at ALL. Or normal. If a human being is knowingly being observed, their behavior will change – albeit even the slightest way. That’s just human nature.
Or if you’re putting your kids in front of the camera because you’re the ultimate stage parent? That may be even worse. Seriously, stage parents – eeww.
Then there’s the pranking part of this YouTube stuff. If you’re playing pranks on your kids where you’re scaring them and/or making them physically ill? That’s abuse, so hat tip to YouTube for at least recognizing that. But yeah – it’s lovely to know that at least everyone can still see how big of a house exploiting-your-kids can buy ya:
Can someone stop the planet? I need a vacation from the stupid.
