Ruth Bader Ginsburg Hopes To Have ‘At Least Five More Years’ On The Bench

The next person who should retire from the Supreme Court? Ruth Bader Ginsburg, for reasons this video provides:

The woman is 85 years old, but she’s not planning on retiring anytime in the immediate future. She spoke Sunday after a production of “The Originalist,” a play all about Justice Antonin Scalia. She said he was her “choice” of dissenters.

“If I had my choice of dissenters when I was writing for the court, it would be Justice Scalia,” Ginsburg said. “Sometimes it was like a ping-pong game.”

But that’s not why I gathered you all here. We want to hear about her plans for the future.

“I’m now 85,” Ginsburg said. “My senior colleague, Justice John Paul Stevens, he stepped down when he was 90, so think I have about at least five more years.”

In other words, she’s holding off retirement until AFTER her 90th birthday.

Lord have mercy.

“You can’t set term limits, because to do that you’d have to amend the Constitution,” Ginsburg continued. “Article 3 says … we hold our offices during good behavior.”

“And most judges are very well behaved,” she added.

And resisters? Don’t lose heart, because Ginsburg still has hope, even though Trump is literally Satan.

“My dear spouse would say that the true symbol of the United States is not the bald eagle — it is the pendulum,” Ginsburg said. “And when it goes very far in one direction you can count on its swinging back.”

So “at least” five more years. That’s her plan. That would bring us through 2020. I think she’s hoping that a Democrat beats Trump in 2020. THEN she’ll retire.

Here’s hoping that former doesn’t happen.
