THE HORROR.
An Indiana brewery issued an apology after prompting a backlash for naming its craft beers with controversial names like “Flint Michigan Tap Water” or “Black Beer Matters.”
Oops. I accidentally think they’re funny. I AM A HORRIBLE HUMAN.
According to The South Bend Tribune, Jon Duncan and Rodney Chlebek, the co-owners of the Lakeville Brew Crew brewery in Lakeville, Indiana, have decided to reverse their plans to label their craft beers with the controversial names, which also included “White Guilt.”
The reversal comes less than a week after the brewery announced the names, attracting overwhelmingly negative online reactions, according to the newspaper.
As is expected of everyone and anyone for saying words, the owners have issued an apology:
“During this time, we have had numerous conversations about the best way to move forward with the partnership. The first thing that we had to do was accept that we made mistakes,” Duncan and Chlebek said in a written statement obtained by the local publication.
“We neglected to put ourselves in the shoes of other people. As a result of ongoing conversations, the list of beer names has been wiped clean.”
“We neglected to remember dark humor and cheeky jokes are now expressly forbidden.”
Duncan told the local paper the names were originally created to bring more awareness to issues like the Flint water crisis.
“It was poorly marketed and it was done without considering the impact of what it would have on other people,” Chlebek said of the names.
