We Chicks have had our share of hate over the past almost-decade of running this site. Mock and I have been called every name in the book. I’ve been told I look like a tranny, a Stepford wife, my face has been picked apart, I’ve been told I wear too much makeup, not enough makeup, don’t even get me started on my hair (oh, the many styles over the years), I’ve been told that I have an ugly-weird-crooked nose (it’s broken, for the record, and I refuse to spend the money to get it fixed – I’m too old to care and have a third kid to still get through college), we’ve been called too skinny, too pudgy, trashy, and there’s always something in our appearance that someone wants to fix. I’ve developed a superhuman thick skin (it is the world of disgusting and dirty politics, after all) and I’m actually quite comfortable with my 46-year old fancy meat skeleton I’m renting down here on earth for a while. I respect it, treat it well, and I think it’s holding up OK. Besides, we LOVE the hate for our Wall of Shame (especially Mock). But, I do wonder about any fellow human being that will take Actual Time out of his/her day to write something hateful to a freaking food blogger. And that’s precisely what happened to the woman below. It’s a few years old (I know, I know, but I just saw it for the first time this weekend). I mean, this Chick doesn’t write about Nancy Pelosi or Trump or immigration, for chrissake. She writes about delicious morsels of goodness that you shove in your piehole.
So why on God’s green earth would someone take time out of his or her day to write something hateful about this woman’s hair and its grayness? What is so wrong with that person’s life that they’re going to take time out of his or her day to point that out? Is that person bored with life? Empty? Void of an actual soul?
Seriously – what in the actual hell is wrong with you?
I work in politics, so I expect people to get ugly with me. It comes with the territory, and I can actually turn that ugly into a cute pair of shoes, if they’re crazy enough (so bring it, losers). But this woman? She blogs about FOOD, y’all. I could work thirty more years in this industry, and I’ll never understand what compels someone to pick on a person like this sweet woman.
But her response? Well, it was epic and needs to be shared.
So I’m doing that:
It proves that you don’t know a person, unless you actually KNOW a person.
So haters….step away from your keyboards and go for a run or something. Volunteer at a local food pantry. Go read to some old people, maybe? Something constructive, perhaps. You know. For a change.
Or listen – if you can’t…just direct it all at us Chicks – we can take it. We’re used to it, after all. And Mama is due for a new pair of shoes.
