Word Has It President Trump Is Casually Eyeing Sen. Mike Lee As A Potential Supreme Court Pick

Whoaaaaaa! I didn’t even realize Sen. Mike Lee was on President Trump’s list!

Word has it Trump spoke to Lee about the SCOTUS vacancy.

“Yesterday, the president spoke on the phone with Sen. Mike Lee,” White House spokesman Raj Shah said in a statement.

That’s…basically all we know.

Lee’s communications director, Conn Carroll,previously confirmed a Deseret News report that the two men had a telephone interview about the opening created by Justice Anthony Kennedy’s impending retirement. But the White House did not describe the discussion as an interview.

Lee told the news outlet that he spoke with Trump about the position but did not reveal the outcome of the discussion.

The Utah senator, a former federal prosecutor and Supreme Court clerk, has openly acknowledged he would welcome a nomination to the nation’s highest court.

Lee already said he wouldn’t reject an offer, either.

Lee: “I started watching Supreme Court arguments for fun when I was 10 years old. So if somebody asked me if I would consider that I would not say no. But the president’s got a decision to make and I trust his ability to make it and make it well.”

It sounds like other candidates have a better chance of getting the nomination (federal appeals court judges Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett) but you never know! I just thought it was cool that Lee was on the list.
