How much do you hate when people camp out in the passing lane and then just hang out there while cars back up behind them for miles, either oblivious to what they’re doing or fully aware but doing it anyway because they’re the worst people ever?
I hate those people. And I wrote about that at length right here. And if you’ve never seen this video about HOW NOT TO DRIVE LIKE A MORON, you need to watch it.
And don’t give me this crap about going faster than the speed limit in the passing lane. NO ONE CARES. The passing lane is not for driving in – it’s for PASSING IN. No one cares if you’re going the speed limit, and you shouldn’t get pissed off at people driving behind you who are riding your ass and flashing lights and honking at you to move out of the way. They’re RIGHT, you’re WRONG, and no matter how fast you’re going, you’re not going as fast as they wanna go. You’re not responsible for judging their speed limit. GET OUT OF THE FREAKING WAY.
Anyway, according to this, an Indiana State Trooper knows how this is all supposed to work, and he just became my new hero. Indiana has a “slow-poke” law, which went into effect a couple years ago, and it stipulates that drivers in the passing lane need to MOVE THE FRICK OVER if the car behind them is going faster. Paraphrasing, obvs. You can even get fined up to $500 for failing to get out of the way and not allowing the faster car to go by you.
I love this law so much it hurts. And Sgt Stephen Wheeles actually ACTED ON IT.
LOOK AT HIM.
That’s the face of awesomeness right there. Check out what he did.
I stopped this vehicle today for a left lane violation on I-65. The driver had approximately 20 cars slowed behind her because she would not move back to the right lane.
Again…if there are vehicles behind you, you must move to the right lane to allow them to pass. pic.twitter.com/tePjJ1Xigy

What’s more, he also tweeted that IN state troopers have issued 4,688 warnings and 331 citations for violations of the law. I LOVE THAT SO MUCH.
But because we are surrounded by idiots, there were actually people who accused this trooper of PROMOTING SPEEDING. OMG. Why are people so freaking butthurt about stuff that they have no business being butthurt about? JUST GET OUT OF THE PASSING LANE.
Sgt Wheeles wasn’t having any of it. He responded, “This is in no way encouraging people to speed. Those speeders are definitely in violation also. Vehicles all travel at different speeds. It was put in place to keep left lane drivers (or the family ten cars back) from getting run over by faster traffic while in the left lane.”
He explained further, in response to someone inevitably using the whole, “But but but…I was going the speed limit!” excuse, “The spirit of the law is that since many people drive well above the speed limit, it creates an ‘accordion effect’ as traffic starts backing up behind the slower vehicle. This is where many of our crashes occur on the interstates. It’s all in the name of safety.’
YES. YES YES YES, Sgt. Wheeles.
He needs a promotion, and a medal, and free Chick-fil-A for life.
