Samantha Bee Apologizes Again. Sort Of.

Samantha Bee, WHO STILL HAS A SHOW, apologized on camera for calling Ivanka Trump the c-word last week.

If you can’t bear to listen to her, here’s the transcript of her apology (emphasis mine).

‘You know, a lot of people were offended and angry I used an epithet to describe the president’s daughter and adviser last week.

‘It is a word I have used on the show many times, hoping to reclaim it.

‘This time I used it as an insult. I crossed the line, I regret it and I do apologize for that.

‘The problem is, that many women have heard that word at the worst moments of thelr lives. A lot of them don’t want that word reclaimed.

‘They want it gone. And, I don’t blame them.

‘I don’t want to inflict more pain on them. I want this show to be challenging and I want it to be honest, but I never intended it to hurt anyone, except Ted Cruz.

‘Many men were also offended by my use of the word. I do not care about that.

‘I hate that this distracted from more important issues. I hate that I did something to contribute to the nightmare of 24-hour news cycles that we’re all white-knuckling through.

‘I should have known that a potty-mouthed insult would be inherently more interesting a to them than juvenile immigration policy.

‘I would do anything to help those kids. I hate that this distracted from them. So, to them I am also sorry.

‘And look, if you are worried about he death of civility. Don’t sweat it. I’m a comedian.

‘People who hone their voices in basement bars while yelling back at drunk hecklers are definitely not paragons of civility.

‘I’m really sorry that I said that word. But, you know what?

‘Civility is just nice words, mayBE we should all worry little bit more about the niceness of our actions.

‘Thank you for listening.’

OMG.

First of all, this whole nonsense about people trying to “reclaim” words so they no longer mean what they clearly mean is patently idiotic. I would bet that all of the other times Samantha Bee has used the word on her show, she was insulting someone, or using the word the way it’s always been used. She’s not reclaiming it. She’s using it. It reminds me of how some chicks are trying to reclaim the word “slut” as a word that’s empowering. Really?

Also, Samantha Bee lamenting over her comments distracting from more important issues is laughable, because her ENTIRE SHOW is a distraction from more important issues.  And listen – I don’t begrudge her that.  I’m sure some people tune in specifically to BE distracted.  It’s just kind of ridiculous that she’s pretending it’s one comment that distracted from important issues, when the same could be said for her entire existence.

And if she’d “do anything to help those kids” – the ones who are here illegally, I’m sure she’s got plenty of bedrooms.  What’s stopping her from helping?  Go get some, house them, clothe them, feed them, pay all of their expenses – GO DO IT, Samantha.  Otherwise you’re just all talk.

I actually LOLd at the part where she got all morally superior to everyone at the end – “maybe we should all worry more about the niceness of our actions” – HA HA HA HA HA HA! Yeah.  I’m sure she’s just the postergirl for “nice actions.”

Notice that not once in her “apology” does she indicate any sense of regret over her implication that Ivanka is having a sexual relationship with her dad.  Nope – she just obsessed over the c-word.

Reclaim it for yourself, Samantha.  The shoe seems to fit.
