Yeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah… she should’ve just sat this one out.
Germaine Greer is a feminist writer who just said some pretty controversial things about rape. I’m talking REALLY controversial. Like NEXT LEVEL controversial.
Greer, who was raped during what she describes as her “party days,” recently told a group at the Hay Literary Festival that rape isn’t always actually rape. More often than not, it’s just “bad sex.”
Her words, not mine.
“We are told it’s one of the most violent crimes in the world – bullsh*t,” she said. “Most rape is just lazy, just careless, just insensitive.”
Um, no. Someone violently FORCING you to sleep with them is horrific. Are you kidding me right now?
“Every time a man rolls over on his exhausted wife and insists on enjoying his conjugal right, he is raping her,” she explained. “It will never end up in a court of law. Instead of thinking of rape as a spectacularly violent crime – and some rapes are – think about it as non-consensual, that is, bad sex.”
“Sex where there is no communication, no tenderness, no mention of love,” she added.
Oh, it gets worse. She said the punishment for rape should be 200 hours of community service and maybe a face tattoo.
“Two hundred hours of community service would do me,” she said. “I have suggested maybe a little tattoo would be a good thing, maybe an R on your hand. I’d prefer it on the cheek really.”
I get that modern day feminists have taken things the WHOLE other way– equating an unwanted whistle to rape– but this is definitely the other extreme.
I call for Germaine Greer to stop calling herself a feminist. Because she very clearly isn’t. And the hailing of her as one needs to stop. It should have stopped a long time ago, really, but now is certainly a good time to really do it. https://t.co/VZPOh2IiYP

As a survivor of abuse I can assure you she needs to not speak on this issue. This kind of thinking is what allows more young women to think no big deal. Over half of the victims of rape don’t tell a soul. https://t.co/H9UURXi1os

Germaine Greer – I’ll happily sit down with you and tell you about how violent my rapist was to educate you seeing as you seem so misinformed on this issue. #GermaineGreer #rapeculture

I am happy for #GermaineGreer that she wasn’t one of the vast majority of rape victims who end up with PTSD, but seriously, we’re not all overreacting or hysterical. Rape victims with PTSD: we’re statistically significant. Rape is always violent, whether or not there are bruises.

Rape is never “careless” or “lazy”. Penetrating another person’s body without their consent is an active choice. https://t.co/XUHGetYl2N

It’s been quite clear to me for some time now that Germaine Greer doesn’t actually like women. And that would include herself.
