As I’ve mentioned a few times before, I travel a lot.
In fact, I’m currently going south on Arizona 89 from the Grand Canyon on my way home. My boyfriend and I spent this Memorial Day Weekend celebrating the majestic beauty of our nation by visiting Zion National Park, Red Canyon, Bryce Canyon, a few small Utah towns and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.
My heart is full and my legs are exhausted.
Anyway, I didn’t see much of this on my trip, as we didn’t come across many monuments…
But I see this kind of thing all the time… and it makes my blood boil.
Monuments are just that – Monuments. They are built out of respect and honor. Not as a recreational spot.
Seldom are monuments a place to act a fool – ESPECIALLY monuments to those who have given their LIVES TO PROTECT US.
They are places of quiet contemplation and gratitude.
Orrr you know… swimming pools:
I’m sorry, but no. There are PLENTY of public swimming pools, splash parks, lakes, rivers, WHATEVER. This is NOT the place. Call me crotchety – but YES. I have a problem with this.
And it’s not like they “just don’t know” …there are signs EVERYWHERE.

WOOOOOW. Really teaching your kid good stuff, huh?
Hope that selfie of you disrespecting a WAR MEMORIAL got you a bunch of likes on Instagram, lady.
People are trying to turn this into an “immigrant” thing. It’s not. As I said, I see this a lot as I travel.. let me tell ya, Americans disrespect our veterans and Memorials just as much. It’s pervasive.

I’m SURE I’m going to get a bunch of people telling me to “chill” because it’s fun to swim in fountains and they let their kids do it all the time.
Guess what. I think YOU are being disrespectful, too. Sure, you’re hot, and you want to wade in some water.
What seems more important to you? Cooling your sweaty feet? Or respecting a place that’s meant as a solemn reminder of soldiers’ sacrifice?
Just food for thought.
