Young Adults Are Skanking It Up In Beaver, PA.

Is it just me?  Am I the only one that finds it amusing that there’s been a rash of STDs (no pun intended) in a county called Beaver?

According to the sourcelink, there’s been a huge uptick in STDs in a county just outside Pittsburgh called Beaver County. And when I say huge, I mean HUGE. We’re talking about a THREE HUNDRED PERCENT increase in HIV and 34% increase in gonorrhea. And this is affecting 15-24 year olds, you guys. Young adults are WHORING IT UP in Beaver County right now.

The culprit? According to “experts,” it’s budget cuts for STD prevention programs. Apparently, sexual activity has been pretty consistent for the past few decades, and the use of birth control is actually up a bit, so the “experts” are blaming a lack of funding on STD prevention programs.

At least one doctor, Dr. Frank DiCenzo, isn’t so sure. He says that teens are more promiscuous than ever, citing patients of his who are high school students who report MULTIPLE sex partners. And we’re talking girls as young as 14. Granted, that’s anecdotal, and national data doesn’t necessarily support this doctor’s findings, but honestly, I don’t doubt it.

Meanwhile, the CDC reports that more than half or state and local STD prevention programs have experienced budget cuts.

Listen, I’m not saying I know what to make of any of that. But there was no way I wasn’t gonna tell y’all about the fact that people are skanking it up in Beaver County.

Side note: Back in the days when my husband worked in racing, he was called “Weave” (short for Weaver) by his co-workers (about 95% of whom were dudes). And since I was “Weave’s” wife, my nickname became, inappropriately, “Weave’s Beave.”

And you guys, I didn’t even mind, because of who I am as a person.

Anyway, that’s why I found this story amusing on multiple levels, even though I recognize that it sucks that a bunch of teenagers in Beaver County have STDs. STOP SKANKING AROUND, young Beaver County people!
