Well, well, well. Whaddya know.
According to the sourcelink, ever since Facebook announced several weeks ago that they were going to stop letting you see as much content from pages like ours, there’s been a pretty massive drop in the amount of time people are spending on Facebook.
We’ve talked about the shenanigans that Facebook has been pulling lately right here. And right here. And right here. And we’ve been telling you, begging you in fact, to STOP RELYING on Facebook to get you to this website. We get probably at least 5 messages a day from people, ON FACEBOOK, saying, “Hey – I never see your stuff on Facebook anymore!” and then I have to link them to all the stories we’ve written about the shenanigans, and I have to remind them to stop USING Facebook to get to our site, and I feel like I’m having to repeat the same thing over and over and over and over to people because Facebook keeps blocking our stuff from y’all.
Hopefully you’ve joined our group, which apparently helps to some degree, but what helps most of all is if you simply bookmark our site and visit it directly at least once a day. Then you’ll never miss a thing.
ANYWAY.
Nielsen data suggests that through November of last year, Facebook lost about 4% in aggregated time spent, but now there’s updated data through DECEMBER, and the time spent went down by 18%, which, if my math is right, is a 14% drop in ONE MONTH. And according to the sourcelink, there’s been a 24% decline in time spent PER PERSON on Facebook, which is pretty significant.
Their conclusion? People in general are simply less engaged with Facebook as a platform. And is it any wonder? I mean, they’re killing off websites and their associated pages like it’s their job, and they’re incredibly condescending to their users – insisting that THEY KNOW BETTER what you want to see in your timeline than you do. Of course people are engaging less.
Add to that the fact that they’re using SNOPES as their official fact checker, and they’re asking survey questions about how tolerant people are of pedophiles, and yeah – I’d say they’re smack dab in the middle of a recipe for disaster.
This all seems so completely avoidable. Freaking go back to a chronological display of content in people’s timelines, of the pages and people they’ve chosen to follow, and STOP TRYING TO DICTATE what’s best for everyone.
But they won’t do that. They’ll continue to have Snopes fact-check satire sites like Babylon Bee, they’ll continue to change people’s personal preference settings for which pages they’d like to see content from and how often, they’ll continue to alienate their user base, and they’ll continue to see less engagement.
And we’ll continue to remind y’all to stop using them to get to this website, because DAYUM.
