As I mentioned earlier, a shooting broke out at Central Michigan University.
We now have word of two fatalities.
Central Michigan University is on lockdown after two people were shot dead in a dorm.
Michigan State Police troopers told the Detroit Free Press that the victims were shot on the fourth floor of Campbell Hall, a co-ed residence hall, shortly after 9am.
The school tweeted that the two victims were not students and that police ‘believe the situation started from a domestic situation’. No other people were injured.
Police have swarmed the Mt Pleasant campus looking for the gunman, who remains at large.
If you have ANY loved ones in the area, please, PLEASE share this information with them:
LATEST: Authorities release description of suspect at large in shooting incident at Central Michigan University; suspect considered armed and dangerous. https://t.co/afz1imqCpw pic.twitter.com/PL9rftE9DK
— ABC News (@ABC) March 2, 2018
The shooter is described as a 19-year-old black male who is approximately five-foot-nine. He is of a slight build, has short hair and was last seen wearing yellow jeans, a blue hoodie, and a pistol tucked into his belt.
He should be considered armed and dangerous, local police say.
Police are working to get a picture of the suspect and believe the teen was released from a hospital this morning just before 8am, the Morning Sun reports. It’s unclear what he was getting treatment for.
This is horrifying… I HATE that he’s at large…
CM Life, a student newspaper, tweeted that a reporter spoke to an officer who said the shooter was still on the premises.
But TV5 reported that the suspect was last seen on the railroad tracks off central campus.
SWAT teams have also surrounded an apartment building in the Cherry Creek Apartments complex on Preston Street, according to NBC 25.
The school posted to their Facebook Friday morning around 9:30am, telling students to shelter in place and avoid the area around Campbell Hall. Classes have been cancelled for the day.
To our readers in the area – PLEASE be careful… We are praying for you at this horrific time.
We will continue to keep you updated.
