Because they’re hopelessly clueless and have no basic understanding of just about anything, House Democrats are pushing an “assault weapons” ban.
Today I joined @RepCicilline and 150+ of my colleagues to introduce the assault weapons ban. It’s time for Congress to listen to the will of a majority of Americans and pass sensible legislation to get these weapons of war off our streets. #NeverAgain #MSDStrong

This is basically a sweeping attempt to take away semi-automatic weapons. There’s no question about it.
The bill prohibits the “sale, transfer, production, and importation” of semi-automatic rifles and pistols that can hold a detachable magazine, as well as semi-automatic rifles with a magazine that can hold more than 10 rounds. Additionally, the legislation bans the sale, transfer, production, and importation of semi-automatic shotguns with features such as a pistol grip or detachable stock, and ammunition feeding devices that can hold more than 10 rounds.
Cicilline’s legislation names 205 specific firearms that are prohibited, including the AK-47 and AR-15.
So basically, they want to criminalize owning “scary” looking weapons.
“Assault weapons were made for one purpose. They are designed to kill as many people as possible in a short amount of time. They do not belong in our communities. I am proud to introduce the Assault Weapons Ban with the support of leaders in law enforcement. It’s on all of us to end this carnage,” Cicilline said in a statement.
Here’s what the ban would include, via the press release:
The Assault Weapons Ban of 2018 will prohibit the sale, transfer, production, and importation of:
· Semi-automatic rifles and pistols with a military-style feature that can accept a detachable magazine;
· Semi-automatic rifles with a fixed magazine that can hold more than 10 rounds;
· Semi-automatic shotguns with a military-style feature;
· Any ammunition feeding device that can hold more than 10 rounds;
· And 205 specifically-named and listed firearms.
Cicilline has no idea what he’s talking about. “Assault weapons”– that’s a stale phrase used by the left to make guns sound scary and awful. Go ahead and ask them what makes an “assault” weapon an “assault” weapon. They either 1.) Won’t be able to tell you, or 2.) Will be forced to admit that they’re afraid of cosmetic features. Need I remind you of the 1994 ban? It basically took five features and prohibited any semi-automatic rifles that possessed two of those features. I love how The Federalist put this:
The 1994 assault weapons law banned semi-automatic rifles only if they had any two of the following five features in addition to a detachable magazine: a collapsible stock, a pistol grip, a bayonet mount, a flash suppressor, or a grenade launcher.
That’s it. Not one of those cosmetic features has anything whatsoever to do with how or what a gun fires. Note that under the 1994 law, the mere existence of a bayonet lug, not even the bayonet itself, somehow turned a garden-variety rifle into a bloodthirsty killing machine. Guns with fixed stocks? Very safe. But guns where a stock has more than one position? Obviously they’re murder factories. A rifle with both a bayonet lug and a collapsible stock? Perish the thought.
This is nothing more than “feel-good” legislation from the Democrats. It’s sad and pathetic. I can’t believe they have the audacity to tell emotionally vulnerable kids that this will keep them safe in school. It won’t. That’s a lie.
PS– Deutch wants to get rid of all semi-automatic weapons, which is basically ALL WEAPONS. That’s what Americans own.
Deutch vowed during a CNN town hall last week to introduce a bill banning semi-automatic weapons.
President Trump was right. I know it sounds crazy, but taking away your guns– that’s their end game.
