This is incredibly chilling.
According to this, 18-year-old Alwin Chen was arrested after bringing a gun and knife to Clarksburg High School.
“Very scary. To me, the fact that the child was bold enough to try that is a concern to be answered,” said Janet Sanchez, whose child attends Clarksburg High School.
Police say at around 2 p.m. a school resource officer was notified that Chen may have brought a weapon to school. School security and the SRO then went to Chen’s classroom and accompanied the student to the office.
When they arrived at the office, the SRO reportedly asked if Chen had any weapons on him. Chen responded that he had a handgun in his bookbag and a knife in his front shirt pocket, according to authorities.
“This illegal and dangerous behavior will not be tolerated in our school community,” Clarksburg High School principal Edward Owusu wrote to parents. “Weapons of any type are not permitted on or near school property. Any student caught with a weapon will be referred to law enforcement and punished accordingly.”
It gets worse. Montgomery County Police discovered a bunch of guns, “ammunition, grenades, a ballistic vest, and a list of grievances against fellow students” in Chen’s home.
Seriously.
Chen’s defense stated that the teen has no evidence of mental health and that he has completely cooperated with authorities. The defense also stated in court that Chen is an honor roll student with scholarship offers from two universities, and that the additional weapons were not found in his room but in another room in his home. Those weapons are believed to have been purchased legally and licensed properly, according to the defense.
The kid had GRENADES dude. What in the world? And a list of grievances against students. And on top of that, he broke the law by bringing a gun to a GUN FREE ZONE. Did he not see the sign?
You see what I’m getting at. Criminals don’t follow laws. We have a serious cultural problem that needs to be addressed. Thank goodness they caught him before it was too late.
