Doritos Is Working To Introduce Polite ‘Lady Friendly’ Chips. For Real.

I’m a Doritos traditionalist. I don’t need the fancy new flavors. I don’t need chile lime or cool ranch. Just give me the nacho cheese flavored delights.

Ugh. OK. I feel like it’s time to confess one of my favorite garbage food recipes. Cook up some ground beef and flavor it with a dash of cumin and chile powder, crush up nacho cheese Doritos, throw in matchstick carrots, shredded cheddar cheese, shredded lettuce and toss it in Catalina dressing. I know it sounds bizarre and gross, but I’m telling you. It’s AMAZING.

Trust me on this one.

So Doritos. I’m a fan. A lot of ladies are, which is why Doritos is launching a “lady-friendly” chip.

I know. I didn’t realize regular Doritos weren’t lady friendly.

Apparently, Doritos discovered that women don’t like eating chips that are too crunchy, and they don’t like licking their fingers in front of others. They want to solve those problems. That’s why they’re going to introduce “lady friendly” chips with a “low crunch.” The snacks will also come in bags that can easily fit in a purse. So I guess…less air?

Global chief exec Indra Nooyi said: “Although women would love to crunch crisps loudly, lick their fingers and pour crumbs from the bag into their mouth afterwards, they prefer not to do this in public.

“You watch a lot of the young guys eat the chips, they love their Doritos, and they lick their fingers with great glee, and when they reach the bottom of the bag they pour the little broken pieces into their mouth, because they don’t want to lose that taste of the flavor, and the broken chips in the bottom.

“Women would love to do the same, but they don’t. They don’t like to crunch too loudly in public. And they don’t lick their fingers.”

“It’s not a male and female as much as ‘are there snacks for women that can be designed and packaged differently?’ And yes, we are looking at it, and we’re getting ready to launch a bunch of them soon.”

OK so…maybe this isn’t a terrible idea? I don’t know. Here’s my concern. If they’re making the chips less finger-licky, won’t that mean they’ll skimp on some of the delicious nacho cheese flavor? I want the FULL FLAVOR. And if the smaller bags are just as much as the bigger ones, that’s a rip off.

Maybe some women will like that. I don’t know. Some people think it’s sexist. I don’t think that’s the case at all.

A spokesman from the Women’s Equality Party said: “Companies that perpetuate these tired gender stereotypes will continue to lose out on the single biggest consumer group: women.

“No doubt some male consumers will welcome the chance to have a bigger package. But the idea of shrinking products for women, no doubt for the same price, is as old as the Ad Men making these decisions.”

They’re just trying to get creative. I mean, it doesn’t appeal to me, but maybe it’ll appeal to other women. I’m not really an eat-chips-on-the-go kinda gal anyway. (I carry Special K Cereal and Nature Valley Crunchy Oats ‘n Honey bars around everywhere. Just ask Kimber.)
