A-ha! I was right! I think?
I’ve been trying to process President Trump’s immigration proposal. It caught both sides by surprise. While I’m pleased with his demand for a wall and his determination to end chain migration and the visa lottery system, providing a pathway for citizenship to 1.8 million illegal immigrations rubbed me– along with many of my fellow conservatives– the wrong way. Sure. It’s not like those people would be able to vote in the next election or anything. The proposed process would take about 10-12 years.
It made me wonder. Did Trump just float this proposal to prove that Democrats really don’t care about Dreamers? As I wrote yesterday:
I’m not sure if Trump actually likes this proposal. I think it’s a negotiating tactic. Maybe he knew Democrats would reject it. I mean, that’s exactly what happened.
As we have been urging him to do for months, the President has finally put pen to paper to show us where he stands on immigration. Unfortunately, this plan flies in the face of what most Americans believe. 1/2

While @realDonaldTrump finally acknowledged that the Dreamers should be allowed to stay here and become citizens, he uses them as a tool to tear apart our legal immigration system and adopt the wish list that anti-immigration hardliners have advocated for for years. 2/2

Odd that Chuck didn’t jump all over this proposal, right? You’d think Democrats would LOOOOVE it. Sure. They hate the wall, but the important part– “saving” the Dreamers– is taken care of. Why would they refuse to support this?
I’ll tell you why. For starters, Democrats want illegals to vote immediately. Their future electoral success depends on it.
I wasn’t even sure if Trump liked this proposal. Just so you know I’m not making this up, allow me to remind you what I wrote yesterday again.
Think about it. Now he can say, “Hey. I offered to give a pathway to citizenship to 1.8 million illegals, but Cryin’ Chuck and the Democrats wouldn’t bite. Blame them, Dreamers! They could’ve helped you, and they didn’t!”
I don’t know. It’s a theory. It also goes to show that Chuck isn’t interested in compromising. That proposal gave Democrats what they claim to want. It helps the Dreamers. But I’m telling you right now. Democrats don’t like that illegals can’t vote immediately. They’d never admit it, but that’s a huge factor for them. The future of their party’s electoral success depends on those people being able to vote now, not in 12 years.
I’m feeling good. I’m feeling like I was right. Trump basically admitted it.
I have offered DACA a wonderful deal, including a doubling in the number of recipients & a twelve year pathway to citizenship, for two reasons: (1) Because the Republicans want to fix a long time terrible problem. (2) To show that Democrats do not want to solve DACA, only use it!

Democrats are not interested in Border Safety & Security or in the funding and rebuilding of our Military. They are only interested in Obstruction!

Trump floated this plan to prove that Democrats aren’t interested in solving the DACA problem. They’re only interested in using Dreamers as a bargaining chip. They don’t really care about them. Trump just exposed them. He called their bluff.
Bravo, Mr. President. Brav-freaking-o.
