President Trump recently unveiled his immigration proposal. A lot of people on both sides of the aisle aren’t happy about it, for various reasons.
The proposal includes $25 billion for a border wall and calls for ending chain migration and stopping the visa lottery system. Oh. And the proposal offers a pathway to citizenship for 1.8 million illegal immigrants. That too.
That’s what’s tripping a lot of conservatives up. Breitbart even had a headline that read “Immigration Shock: Amnesty Don Suggests Citizenship for Illegal Aliens.”
Yeah.
I’m not happy about the proposed pathway to citizenship either. Granting legal status– sure. Whatever. But citizenship? It’s not fair to those who are coming here THE RIGHT WAY. Actions have consequences. I think there’s a way to have “a little heart” without essentially handing out amnesty to 1.8 million illegals.
For what it’s worth, word has it the process would take 10-12 years, so it’s not like they’d be voting in the next election. (Which is exactly what Democrats want– no, need– to happen.
I’m not sure if Trump actually likes this proposal. I think it’s a negotiating tactic. Maybe he knew Democrats would reject it. I mean, that’s exactly what happened.
As we have been urging him to do for months, the President has finally put pen to paper to show us where he stands on immigration. Unfortunately, this plan flies in the face of what most Americans believe. 1/2

While @realDonaldTrump finally acknowledged that the Dreamers should be allowed to stay here and become citizens, he uses them as a tool to tear apart our legal immigration system and adopt the wish list that anti-immigration hardliners have advocated for for years. 2/2

Perhaps Trump knew this would happen.
DACA has been made increasingly difficult by the fact that Cryin’ Chuck Schumer took such a beating over the shutdown that he is unable to act on immigration!

Think about it. Now he can say, “Hey. I offered to give a pathway to citizenship to 1.8 million illegals, but Cryin’ Chuck and the Democrats wouldn’t bite. Blame them, Dreamers! They could’ve helped you, and they didn’t!”
I don’t know. It’s a theory. It also goes to show that Chuck isn’t interested in compromising. That proposal gave Democrats what they claim to want. It helps the Dreamers. But I’m telling you right now. Democrats don’t like that illegals can’t vote immediately. They’d never admit it, but that’s a huge factor for them. The future of their party’s electoral success depends on those people being able to vote now, not in 12 years.
Who will come out on top here? And what do you think? Is this all part of “the art of the deal”? Do you think Trump has something else up his sleeve?
