Alyssa Milano Is Promoting ‘Digital Counter-Programming’ During Trump’s SOTU Address

President Trump’s first State of the Union address is set for this Tuesday at 9 pm ET. I’m looking forward to it. With all of the recent political drama– the FBI losing and “finding” anti-Trump text messages, Republican lawmakers trying to release the FISA memo to the public and lawmakers squawking over a DACA deal – it’s sure to be a treat. I’m curious to see how Trump handles it. Will he mention the political drama or stick to the script? Will he go after MSM? Will he bring up the never ending Russia investigation? Who knows! I can’t wait to see it.

There are a few lawmakers who say they won’t attend the SOTU, because Trump is a racist. (Yawn.)

CNN isn’t very thrilled either. Since Trump is POTUS, SOTU addresses are basically pointless. This is an Actual Headline on CNN:

The overview is as follows:

On Tuesday night (6pm PST/9pm EST), Donald Trump will deliver his SOTU address. #StateOfTheDream will highlight what truly makes America great: that we come from many places, races and creeds, and together work for a more perfect union.

Our digital #StateOfTheDream address will support our dreamers and immigrants, call for a DREAM Act, lean into the Senate, fundraise for United We Dream, and express our vision for a more inclusive, progressive America.

We will provide a social media toolkit closer to the 30th, but we also invite you create a brief (60 seconds or less) video describing your dream for America: What you hope for. What inspires YOU. (We especially encourage those running for office and those already serving to do so!). All videos should be posted simultaneously at 6pm PST/9pm EST with the hashtag #StateOfTheDream on all of your social channels. After the video blast, you can proceed to post tweets from the toolkit or your own messaging. We just ask that you continue the unifying tweetstorm with the #StateOfTheDream hashtag.

In other words, they’re going to resist by not watching Trump’s speech, and then they’ll proceed to offer ill-informed commentary on the speech they didn’t even watch in the first place.

Don’t confuse this with Maxine Waters’ “national address.” That’s happening on BET after Trump’s speech. The “digital counter-programming” will occur during Trump’s address.

Alyssa really wants Trump to know that this is happening.

Rep. Joseph P. Kennedy III will deliver the Democratic response.

The choice thrusts the 37-year-old, three-term congressman from Brookline into the national spotlight more squarely than he has ever been before. The job will put him on national television as the face of the Democratic Party and the voice of chief Trump critic at an extraordinary moment in the country’s politics. For many Americans, it will be their first introduction to the latest Kennedy on the political scene.

“Congressman Kennedy is a relentless fighter for working Americans,” Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said in a press release announcing the move. “While President Trump has consistently broken his promises to the middle class, Congressman Kennedy profoundly understands the challenges facing hard-working men and women across the country.”

Like I said. I can’t wait.
