January 22, 2018For some reason completely beyond me, feminists think it’s really empowering to see a model wearing a hijab. It’s quite perplexing. It’s almost as if they have no idea that hijabs are symbols of oppression. In certain Middle Eastern countries, the patriarchy will, quite literally, punish a woman for ditching her hijab.
But yeah. They’re empowering. Suuuuuuure, feminists.
UK beauty blogger Amena Khan was the hijab-wearing face of a recent campaign by L’Oreal…
… but she decided to pull out of the campaign due to “the current conversations surrounding it.”
Translation: Everyone discovered a bunch of her anti-Israel tweets from 2014. Because OF COURSE she’s anti-Israel.
A spokesperson for L’Oreal provided this statement:
“We have recently been made aware of a series of tweets posted in 2014 by Amena Kahn, who was featured in a UK advertising campaign.
“We appreciate that Amena has since apologised for the content of these tweets and the offence they have caused.
“L’Oreal Paris is committed to tolerance and respect towards all people. We agree with her decision to step down from the campaign.”
Interestingly enough, most of her supporters are TICKED that she apologized for bashing Israel.
Here are some of the comments on her announcement:
“Amena cowered at the first sign of difficulty and instead of supporting what was morally good and ethically right she apologised to those who oppress the Palestinians. If you want to put your support behind women with integrity then stand behind women like Amani al-Khatahtbeh she just refused an award from Revlon because their ambassador is an ex IDF solder who actively supports the israeli army. That’s a woman of honour who genuinely supports those in need.”
“So so so dissapointed by you..i have never publicly posted a message like this attacking someone but im genuinely disgusted that you have apologised for defending israeli attitudes towards Palestinians for fame and money. I WISHED you would have stuck you your original message by condemning the apartheid and illegal occupation and raising awareness of the palestinians struggles.. but instead you apologised…!!!!!!! You should hang your head in shame, hope its worth it.. 😐😐😐💔💔💔💔💔💔💔”
“When you work with white people in the west, a lot of them are pro israel. If amena doesnt delete the tweets or acknowledge the tweets she’ll lose the loreal deal and what she has going with ITV. Funny how mean these people get the moment she expresses a bit of regret for being nasty toward Israel, huh?
