Animal Rescue Group Is Raising Money To Get An Old Pony A New Penis

I’m a HUGE animal lover.

I would love nothing more than to own a bunch of land and take in neglected horses and burros and talk to them brush them all day.

BUT

I read this story… and somehow… I’m finding it difficult to understand why and how this is necessary… or even the right thing to do.

Oh?

So let’s back up… Richard the pony has cancer… Penis cancer.

According to this:

A horse sanctuary in Maine is asking for donations to buy a new penis for a cancer-stricken pony which is close to death.

Richard, a 15-year-old Shetland mini cross, was brought to Third Coast Equine in Palermo, Maine, in December by a horse dealer.

Staff immediately noticed a rotting smell coming from him and quickly located it to his sheath.

When worker Brogan Horton touched it, the frozen tip fell off, leaving him with a swollen appendage with leaking holes all over it.

Vets have since told staff that the pony’s penis is plagued with cancer.

..oh no.

That’s actually really sad. I’m sorry, Richard.

They suspect it was left untreated by his previous owners for years and that this is why he is now in such a grave state.

Third Coast is now appealing for donations to raise the $4,000 they need to pay for Richard to undergo a surgery to have his infected penis removed and replaced.

The rescue groups’ owner spoke about the pony’s condition…

She said she was stunned when she realized how serious Richard’s condition was because he himself barely flinches when his wounded penis is touched.

‘The night he arrived, a 2×2 chunk of his penis flesh,broke off.

‘It has rotten so badly that it has destroyed the flesh and created additional holes,’ Horton said in a description on the fundraising page.

Oh, dear Lord…

The said the sanctuary would not normally spend so much money on a surgery for an animal if it was older, but that Richard deserves a chance to live ‘pain-free’.

Despite what looks like agonizing pain, Horton said Richard shows no signs of suffering or acting out.

‘I can’t fathom what he suffered.

‘He’s on a lot of pain meds right now but I’m sure it was excruciating before.

‘Richard deserves a medal of patience. He’s full of life but is very, very good about letting us treat him.

So… I’m no pony penis expert…. but the vets said he was riddled with cancer. Will getting Richard a new little Richard help? Are they just subjecting this poor guy to more pain and suffering?

As I said… I love animals, so this DOES make me sad… but when does “caring” for an animal stop being compassionate and start being selfish? Is putting this guy through all of this really about HIM?

If this poor creature is living his pony life doped up because chunks of his FLESH are falling off from being riddled with cancer… is a new penis really the compassionate thing to do?

I’m sure I’ll get A LOT of opinions on this one…
