Baltimore Residents Blame The Record Murder Rate On Lack Of Police Presence

It’s official. 2017 is in the books. Records were set, and that’s not necessarily a good thing.

Baltimore had over 300 murders in 2017.

For the third year in a row, Baltimore, Md., has had more than 300 murders, reaching a new record of murders per number of residents in 2017.

There can only be one explanation for this: Increased POLICE BRUTALITY! Cops are out of control. They’re out there targeting black communities and FORCING these poor kids to lead lives of crime! They WANT that to happen! They WANT to murder “innocent,” unarmed black men!

That’s the mentality of Black Lives Matter activists, but it’s not reality.

Believe it or not, Baltimore residents blame the increased murders on a lack of police presence. You see, after the whole Freddie Gray scandal, the police took a different approach. Instead of doubling down on crime, it backed off (probably to get out of the national spotlight). As a result, crime worsened.

Some residents attribute the high murder rate to relaxed police patrols in the city following high-profile cases of police brutality. Officers have backed off in neighborhoods, like the one where Freddie Gray was arrested.

The Rev. Kinji Scott, a pastor in Baltimore who’s held positions in local city government, says the opposite needs to happen.

“We wanted the police there,” Scott says. “We wanted them engaged in the community. We didn’t want them beating the hell out of us, we didn’t want that.”

So, Black Lives Matter. What now? I thought cops were pigs who made everything worse. Now you want them back to protect you?

“We need the front line police officers and we need the heart of the black community to step to the forefront of this discussion,” Scott said, according to NPR. “And that’s when we’re going to see a decrease in crime.”
