Chick-fil-A Feeds Hungry Travelers Stranded At The Atlanta Airport…On A Sunday!

The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has a crisis on its hands. It experienced a pretty gnarly blackout.

A power outage has impacted several areas in the airport. #ATL officials are working to remedy the situation. Additional updates to come

Passengers were left in the dark when the lights suddenly went out around 1pm Sunday.

The blackout halted all outgoing flights, and arriving planes were held on the ground at their point of departure. International flights were being diverted, officials said.

Passengers inside the airport are lighting their way with their cell phones and people in wheelchairs are having to be carried down stairwells. People have reportedly been stuck on planes for more than seven hours.

Yuck. Atlanta is one of the last airports I’d want to get stuck in. Progress has been…slow.

It sounds horrible. People were lying around, sweating, starving and sleeping on baggage claim belts. Until it happened. The knight chicken in shining armor came to the rescue!

That’s right. Chick-fil-A. It offered to serve starving, miserable, stranded travelers, even though this happened on a Sunday!

“They are making sandwiches and delivering them to the emergency operations center,” a spokeswoman for Chick-fil-A told Todd Starnes . “City and airport officials there are distributing sandwiches to passengers who are stranded due to the power outage.”

“It has been a very difficult day for thousands of travelers,” she continued. “And while Chick-fil-A is always closed on Sunday, our restaurants open occasionally to serve communities in need.”

“We do not make a profit but do what we can to offer comfort to people experiencing hardship,” she added.

The City of Atlanta has mobilized the Georgia International Convention Center and will provide shuttle services for anyone who needs a place to stay for the night. @ChickfilA will provide food for passengers.
