Professor Creates KKK Hoods Out Of The American Flag, Calls It Art

Art sure isn’t what it used to be.

A professor at the University of Miami is under fire for her contribution toward the university’s faculty art exhibit. Her piece? KKK hoods made out of the American flag. She calls the exhibit “American Mask.”

Art.

The professor, Billie Lynn, said she was inspired by her upbringing in Louisiana, because “the Klan is really strong there.”

“I am from the place where these people live,” she said. “I am these people in some way.”

Uh…no. You’re not a Klansman if you’re not a Klansman, Billie. My great grandfather always told my dad that our family consisted of horse thieves who were all hung…I certainly don’t consider myself in the same boat. But…should I? Am I a horse thief too? Does she really not see the absurdity in that way of thinking?

She said recent events– such as the protests in Charlottesville, Virginia– sparked this idea.

“I consider myself a patriot,” she says. “We have to wake up and see what is happening in our own country.”

“I have been really disturbed by all the things that have happened in this country, particularly since the election,” she added. “People really felt they could hide their racism behind the flag… The flag is not sacred in itself.”

That’s code for “Trump supporters are hiding their true racist intentions and trying to pass it off as patriotism.”

You know that’s what she really means.

Needless to say, people are disturbed by the exhibit.

Patrick Young, who works in the building, is offended by the work, but the artist said she finds it disturbing as well. “This is disgusting. This is disrespectful, and people just don’t understand it,” said Young. “I can’t see it being a positive message no matter what way you put it.”

“What can this actually help?” he said. “Burning an American flag, I have no idea what this symbolizes, what this helps out. Who does this reach?”

Heck, even Billie is disturbed by her work. (So she says.)

“I actually find it offensive, to tell you the truth,” she explained. “And when I sew them, when I make them, I find it very disturbing. The piece is my way of trying to challenge people to think.”

I find it offensive, because she’s low key suggesting that racists are absolutely EVERYWHERE, and that these FLAMING RACISTS “hide” their racism behind their supposed “love of country.”

That really annoys me.

“We don’t need more pretty pictures when we’re confronting a world that’s filled with ugliness and hate,” Lynn said. “I want people to think about it and go, ‘Is this the truth? Is this the way it is?’”

That’s nice, but that’s NOT the truth. That’s NOT true for the vast majority of America-loving patriots. We aren’t racist. Stop perpetuating that narrative.
