It’s out of control, y’all.
I think Ashley Judd has a legit phobia of ending sentences with prepositions.
And listen – I know that it’s a grammar rule that people like to follow when they’re hoity toity grammar snobs, but those people should also be aware of this:
The reason this is bothering me so much right now is because of Ashley Judd’s propensity for making the English language SO COMPLETELY AWKWARD when she attempts to restructure sentences so that she’s not ending them with prepositions. Or, in the latest example (in case you missed it), she simply created a brand new ridiculous way of saying she could no longer put up with something. It’s BEYOND PARODY (it’s at the 1:06 minute mark):
WHAT IN THE WORLD???? She Actually Said That Out Loud.
Seriously WTF.
But there are TONS of other examples. For instance, instead of saying, in this interview, that she had a job she was crazy about, just listen to her at the 34 second mark.
Why though? Why can’t she just say she has a job she’s crazy about, like a NORMAL HUMAN BEING?
A couple more examples:
Here’s a twitter exchange I captured a few years back between Ashley and one of her minions (minion name removed to protect the ignorant).
There are thousands of other examples. Watch any interview she’s ever given, and you’re bound to hear at least a few instances in every one.
And it’s not just a preposition thing. It’s the need she has to twist herself into a pretzel to make every sentence she utters sound like it either came straight out of a Deepak Chopra book, or out of a guidebook on How To Sound Like A Narcissistic Seabeast.
These are Actual Things She Has Said In Conversations.
I gotta pause right there because DAYUM. When you talk about people introducing you as having the honor to do that, you reeeeeeally need to check your ego at the door.
And last but not least, if you weren’t already impressed enough by Ashley Judd’s immense vocabulary and her authoritative feminism and her social justice activism, then you should know that she speaks French (she minored in it at Kentucky University, apparently), and if presented with an opportunity to use it, even if it’s not the least bit necessary, she’s gonna use it.
I loved that whenever Tony Goldwyn talked in that interview, she made this sour face.
Anyway, now that you know these things, you’re not gonna be able to NOT NOTICE that this is how she operates ALL THE TIME.
How often, you ask?
This often.
