October 17, 2017What’s the first word that comes to mind when you think of comedians like Chelsea Handler, Amy Schumer, George Lopez or Kathy Griffin?
I have a lot of words. They’re not very nice.
I’m willing to bet the word “important” didn’t pop into your head, but it SHOULD HAVE. Comedians– politically-charged liberal comedians especially– are incredibly important to the health of our society. We would curl up and die without their commentary.
Joy Behar really believes that. She thinks comedians should be immune to criticism.
“Last week everyone was saying the late night hosts didn’t mention the Weinstein scandal,” Sunny Hostin explained. “But you know they were always making jokes about Roger Ailes and Bill O’Reilly. ‘SNL’ [Saturday Night Live] took a hit for not saying anything. Now you have ‘SNL’ doing something. You have James Corden doing something, and now it’s, ‘oh, it’s in poor taste, it’s too soon.’”
“Why?” Joy Behar said. “Rose McGowan particularly singled out Corden. I really don’t think that it’s appropriate to attack comedians. We’re on the right side of things.”
You hear that? It’s not appropriate to attack comedians now. Why? Because they are important! It’s not her fault you don’t realize that.
“Also, the comedians are there to say the emperor has no clothes,” Behar said. “We’re important people right now. So, I don’t know why attack comedians. And yet what you just said is interesting. She only went after Corden. [Jimmy] Kimmel made a joke. [John] Oliver made a joke, ‘SNL,’ we all do that.”
“She [McGowan] used not productive language,” Sarah Haines interjected. “She called him a piglet. Like she made fun of his weight.”
“There is a difference … making a joke about the accuser and the person who is the pig in this situation, in this case Harvey Weinstein. You’re making a joke about Harvey.”
If everyone could stop calling out liberal comedians and realize that they’re precious angels sent from heaven, that would be great, thanks.
