Earlier in the week, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell sent out a letter to teams, explaining that players SHOULD stand during the national anthem. Here’s the letter, for reference–
NFL owners and representatives from the players’ union are expected to get together to discuss this issue in greater detail later this month. We’ll see what comes of it.
In the meantime, Tennessee Titans WR Rishard Matthews is throwing a fit. He’s threatening to “quit” if the league changes the rules and requires him to stand during the national anthem. As if him quitting will drastically affect our lives in any way…
He’s since deleted that tweet. Perhaps he realized that he’s blessed to have a job that allows him to make millions for catching a ball.
By the way, even though he hasn’t been kneeing, he plans to.
“I plan to kneel until the president apologizes for the comments that he made, because I felt like those were very disrespectful comments,” he told ESPN.
Oh. So he’s disrespecting our country and those who serve it to “stick it to the prezzy,” huh? Cool.
Also, he’s mad at fans for boycotting the NFL. Apparently, it shows that we “still have a long way to go in this country.”
‘It’s very unfortunate that fans choose not to watch because players are exercising their rights!’ Matthews tweeted on October 5. ‘Just shows you we still have a long way to go in this country, but I believe in this country and we’ll eventually get it corrected. Don’t worry I don’t hate you for your views as you me. Love thy neighbor as much as you love yourself!’
It’s still OK for people to have a problem with NFL players making ridiculous political statements during a time where we’re all supposed to stand united to honor our country and those who serve it. That’s not hateful.
Go ahead, Matthews. Quit. See who cares.
