There’s an active shooter situation at Texas Tech. One officer has been fatally shot. The shooter is currently on the loose.
Additional information is slowly coming in. According to a report from NBC News, this incident started as a student “welfare check.” When authorities brought the student in question back to the station, he opened fire.
A call for a student “welfare check” lead campus officers to a room where they found drugs and drug paraphernalia, prompting the officers to bring the suspect to station, a spokesman for the school said in a statement.
“During this time, the suspect pulled a gun and shot an officer in the head,” the statement read. “The officer is deceased.
The shooter was still at large as of 10:15 p.m. ET and Texas Tech’s Twitter feed warned anyone on campus to shelter in place.
