I’d love to know how this idea got past Dove’s creative team.
Dove is facing intense backlash for what many consider a “racist” three-second GIF ad. Basically, the ad shows a black woman taking her shirt off, revealing a white woman sporting an off-white shirt. People are stopping there.
But as the Daily Mail notes, the ad “also features a third panel of another woman but in the now heavily circulated pic, that is not included.”
Because of course it’s not. Here’s the third woman. Some say she’s Asian.
People are only focusing on the first part, where the black woman “transitions” into a white woman. They’re MAAAAAAD.
It doesn’t bleach, just makes your skin smooth and moisturized all day… This ad is racist and doesn’t make any sense at all

Has anyone seen the new dove ad? People are offended saying it was racist. And I can see why.

It goes from one racist to another and is finally approved by the racist boss.. Simple. ☺

I’m convinced these people do it on purpose. I don’t believe for ONE SECOND that they didn’t portray exactly what they intended to portray with stock apology pre-written. Bit just so long as they could put their racist ad out.

#BoycottDove FY apology Dove, you just keep depicting racist imagery and putting out racist products to support your racist beliefs. pic.twitter.com/UiZeSMhyHP

Dove has apologized profusely.
I think Dove was trying to show that their product is for all skin types. Of course, it’s hard to see that message in the viral screen grab compilation. It looks bad.
Someone actually asked one of the most outraged individuals if she’d still be mad if Dove switched the order, having the white woman go first and “transition” into a black woman.
So If The White Girl Was First And The Black Girl Was Second Would Y’all Still Feel They Way Y’all Do?
(I have no idea why she capitalized the first letter in every word. Just ignore that.) This was her response:
Nope …. we wouldn’t and that’s the whole point…. what does America tell black people …that we are judged by the color of our skin and that includes what is considered beautiful in this country…. they believe lighter representations should be at the forefront ….. and that the darker you are the less beautiful and to know that colorism is a problem in the world ….that includes bleaching the skin they would put this ad out without a thought….the tone deafness in these companies makes no sense
I’m sure Dove meant no harm. But at the same time, their creative team should’ve known better. We live in a hypersensitive world.
