If this sounds like a ridiculous headline, it’s because this is an absolutely ridiculous story.
Some adult cartoon called “Rick and Morty” aired an episode earlier this year about how much they loved McDonald’s Szechuan sauce, a dipping sauce made in 1998 in conjunction with a Mulan Happy Meal promotion.
I guess Rick and Morty fans are diehards (who knew?) because they went berserk and DEMANDED that McDonald’s provide the sauce. THEY MUST HAVE THE SAUCE!
So McDonald’s played along and sent the show’s co-creator a big ol’ jug of the sauce.
NO! The fans screamed. THEY MUST HAVE THE SAUCE!
So McDonald’s released a limited quantity of sauce packets this weekend…. and then things get REALLY stupid.
I drove over an hour for this. Extremely disappointed. #notmyrestaurant #szechuansauce @McDonalds pic.twitter.com/i2zh6nKn7a

An hour! WHY?
Cops are at Wellington McDonalds where tons of angry people lined up for hrs for Rick and Morty Szechuan sauce only to learn they had none pic.twitter.com/3T272osid4

THE COPS GOT INVOLVED, Y’ALL. OVER MCDONALD’S DIPPING SAUCE.
Angry crowd chants “We want sauce” as police force them back. 1000+ people camped out to get #szechuansauce but McDonalds had 70 sauces… pic.twitter.com/wEaqC64Hln

THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED FOR REAL.
Then those weird little goons got so mad they threatened to file a class-action lawsuit. Really. Over sauce.
Anyone know how to bring a class action suit against @McDonalds for false advertisement? Asking for a few thousand friends #szechuansauce

This seems like class action lawsuit territory, I’m likely to NEVER eat at McDonalds again after this, it’s just pure disrespect to the fans

I would be in for class action lawsuit…no sauce at our restaurant, 10 posters, didnt tell us till 5min before 2pm

I can’t imagine what it must be like to be these humans…. What’s your deal?
So McDonald’s gave the people what they wanted….
You spoke. We’ve listened. Lots more #SzechuanSauce and locations. Details soon. And that’s the wayyy the news goes! pic.twitter.com/ooIrbZBsOw

God bless you, McDonald’s. Giving the people what they want! (even if the people are morons)
