French President Emmanuel Macron wants to end his country’s “macho” culture. Let’s be real. He’s the perfect guy to do that, being a prime example of a weenie beta male and whatnot.
Ah yes. Mass emasculation. That’s what the world needs more of!
I know what you’re thinking. Since when does France have a “macho” culture problem? Well, our definitions of “macho” differ. You see, Macron actually considers a man asking for a woman’s number a super “macho” move.
Emmanuel Macron wants to ban men from following women and asking for their phone number under new plans to end the ‘macho’ culture in France.
The 39-year-old French President vowed to crackdown on harassment on public transport and in the street when he was on the election trail earlier this year.
A working party set up by, Marlene Schiappa, the under-secretary for gender equality, is now looking to produce legislation making it illegal to harass people in a public place – and this could mean outlawing wolf-whistles.
Perhaps it sounds like a good idea, but again. Men could be accused of harassing a woman for simply complimenting her or asking for her number. That’s problematic.
Five MPs on the committee will examine the legal definition of street harassment before ruling what fines should be imposed, according to The Times.
But critics say the measures will be hard to implement because of the difficulty of proving an offense had taken place.
Schiappa, a blogger and novelist who Macron has appointed to his cabinet, suggested earlier this year that punishments could be in the form of on-the-spot fines – but the exact figure has yet to be determined.
It’s just crazy to me that France is willing to crack down on dudes asking for a woman’s number. But Islamic woman-haters roaming the streets? Meh. We must respect their culture!
I get what France is trying to do here. I really do. Obviously, we don’t want men actually harassing women in the streets. But if casually asking for a woman’s number meets the definition of harassment, well, that’s incredibly ridiculous.
