This is nutty.
President Trump hosted a “working dinner” at the White House Wednesday night and invited none other than Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Chuck Schumer. After the dinner, the two released a joint statement, claiming that they reached an agreement on DACA “excluding the wall.”
Everyone completely lost it. A Breitbart editor called it a “betrayal of the highest order.” Backlash among his supporters was severe.
Trump tells his audience what they want to hear. He told 63 million who voted for him he’d build a wall. Get used to it, Chuck & Nancy. https://t.co/UuxYFLLpok

Exactly what @realDonaldTrump campaigned on. Not. https://t.co/aiHqiI8ein

THE ART OF THE STEAL: Let’s hope that Pelosi & Schumer misrepresented the #DACA deal. @realDonaldTrump

There’s a LOT more where that came from.
The White House immediately hit back:
While DACA and border security were both discussed, excluding the wall was certainly not agreed to.

WH leg affairs director Marc Short calls Dems’ DACA statement “misleading,” says no deal on DACA or border wall $$ was reached tonight.

And on Thursday morning, President Trump trashed Democratic leadership’s entire statement.
No deal was made last night on DACA. Massive border security would have to be agreed to in exchange for consent. Would be subject to vote.

The WALL, which is already under construction in the form of new renovation of old and existing fences and walls, will continue to be built.

Does anybody really want to throw out good, educated and accomplished young people who have jobs, some serving in the military? Really!…..

…They have been in our country for many years through no fault of their own – brought in by parents at young age. Plus BIG border security

Before leaving the White House for Florida Thursday morning, Trump briefly spoke with reporters and said they “are working on a plan for DACA” and that “the wall will come later … The wall is going to be built, it’ll be funded a little bit later.”
It’s not over. Pelosi and Schumer have released ANOTHER joint statement. They say Trump’s tweets “are not inconsistent with the agreement reached last night.” That’s right. I had to read that twice too. His tweets are “not inconsistent.” NOT. They said that.
So there was no official “deal,” but there was a general “agreement.”
“We agreed the president would support enshrining DACA protections into law, and encourage the House and Senate to act,” they wrote.
“While both sides agreed that the wall would not be any part of this agreement, the president made clear he intends to pursue it at a later time, and we made clear we would continue to oppose it,” they added.
Their statement actually sounds reasonable.
I guess the biggest point of contention is the wall. Everyone made it sound like Trump was done with the wall, but he’s made it clear that the wall WILL GO UP. It just won’t be part of that particular deal.
What do you make of this?
