Report: Trump Has Made A Decision On DACA

According to this, Trump has made a final decision on DACA, but it will not come in to play for six months…

President Donald Trump will reportedly put an end to former President Barack Obama’s 2012 executive order deferring deportation of some 800,000 so-called “Dreamers” by ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA).

 

According to sources from Politico and the Associated Press, President Trump will end the program in six months, enabling Congress time to potentially draft and pass legislation protecting the illegal immigrants from deportation.

 

“The delay in the formal dismantling of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, program would be intended to give Congress time to decide whether it wants to address the status of the so-called Dreamers in legislation, according to two people familiar with the president’s thinking,” reports AP. “But it was not immediately clear how the six-month delay would work in practice and what would happen to people who currently have work permits under the program, or whose permits expire during the six-month stretch.”

 

The president is expected to announce his decision on DACA this Tuesday, the day some Republicans have threatened to sue the administration if Trump neglects to rescind the unconstitutional act.

 

“The expected move would come as the White House faces a Tuesday deadline set by Republican state officials threatening to continue sue the Trump administration if the president did not end the program,” notes AP.

In February, President Trump said DACA is “a very, very difficult subject for me. … To me, it’s one of the most difficult subjects I have. You have some absolutely incredible kids — I would say mostly,” he added. “I love these kids.”

I agree with him. This IS difficult. I am ENTIRELY against illegal immigration. We also cannot close our eyes to the fact that many DACA participants are here through no fault of their own. Do we OWE them citizenship? No. But we can’t pretend this is black and white. It’s not.

As I wrote before, I’ve met a number of DACA participants…a large number of them don’t recall living anywhere but the USA. Many have not been to Mexico or Latin America since before they could walk and talk. Many cannot speak Spanish, and the vast majority cannot write in it. Many of them have never been documented in Mexico… so they are entirely nationless.

I personally knew of a girl who got good grades, worked a part-time job for her family’s business, and had attended an Indiana school since Kindergarten.Her parents were illegal, and she knew that, but they had always told her she was born in Indiana. She fully believed she was an American citizen, and was proud to be one. It wasn’t until she started preparing to apply for college that her parents revealed she had been born in Mexico… and brought over illegally. She was covered under DACA. I don’t know how this will impact her.

I think it’s incredibly sad that they will fall victims of their parents’ actions. Will I pretend to know the solution? No, I will not. I just think it’s important to remember that these issues are not always as black and white as they seem.

We must stop illegal immigration into this country, that is imperative, but we should not blind ourselves to the reality of this situation.

Many of you will get mad at me for bringing this sort of information up, but I think every decision and stance we have should be an informed one. It’s really easy to make a decision when you refuse to think of the people it’s affecting as real people.

I agree we should end DACA. It was a bandaid for a HUGE problem. I also think we need to be realistic about who it impacts, and cognizant of that huge impact when it comes to deciding what comes next.
