Last night, I posted about Sinead O’Connor’s most recent FB video, in which she sounded suicidal.
Great news, y’all. She’s apparently fine, according to this post on her FB page from earlier today:
That was a huge relief, because in her video (which you can see at the above sourcelink), she’s crying, talking about her mental illness, sounding suicidal, and is basically a total mess.
Yes. She was a mess. I said it last night, I said it on the air this morning, and I’ll say it until such time as she’s no longer a mess. That woman is a MESS, y’all. If you’re in denial of reality about that, you’re not listening to her. You literally care more about some bizarre new political correctness rule that you just made up than you do what is plainly evident to anyone with a functioning cerebral cortex.
Now, according to a bunch of hysterical, pearl-clutching people on Facebook, stating the obvious out loud is apparently like an unforgivable sin, and it makes me insensitive and cold and horrible and Hitler and Satan. It doesn’t matter that Sinead O’Connor describes herself in similar terms, or that anyone with functional eyes and ears can see and hear that she’s a mess. Nope – the word police were out in full force last night, insisting that I was basically the worst person ever for having the audacity to share Sinead O’Connor’s video, even though she states her wishes in the video for it to BE shared in the hopes that it might help others suffering from mental illness.
I’m a monster, apparently, because I called the hotel room Sinead was in a “sleazy hotel room in Jersey.” It doesn’t matter that it’s a $70/night Travelodge in the middle of Hackensack and that Sinead herself described it as a “Travelodge in the ass-end of Jersey.” Nope – I AM THE DEVIL, you guys.
Oh – and also – I ended my post last night hoping Sinead would get help, I wished her the best, and said, “Yikes.” I discovered via the brilliant language police on Facebook that it was DEEPLY OFFENSIVE to say, “Yikes” at the end of my post. Whizzah Whuzzah? If there is ANY situation that called for a “yikes” it was Sinead O’Connor’s video. You couldn’t watch that without cringing and worrying about her and thinking, “Yikes.” But saying that out loud? Apparently really really hateful and mean. I am learning so much from the pearl-clutchers!
Some of our followers on Facebook are just WACK, y’all. I had to go on a deleting/banning spree for a bit – some of the comments were just sick and wrong and truly hateful and literally wished Sinead O’Connor would die. I’m sure several remain, because I couldn’t possibly catch them all nor do I have time to police our comments there 24/7. There were also several people, as I mentioned, who were determined to berate me for sharing the video in the first place, and to tell me what “poor judgment” it was, blah blah blah. After some back and forth with a few of those folks, I got rid of a few of the more obnoxious ones. I don’t tolerate people coming to my house and insulting me and insisting I meant harm to Sinead or that I meant to be horrible when that’s absolutely not true. Nope. You don’t get to do that.
One such person, who complained incessantly about my “poor judgment” in posting about Sinead last night, decided she needed to give us a piece of her mind via email about being banned, and it’s just too good not to share:
Blocking people has nothing to do with ignorance and everything to do with removing people from our house that are no longer welcome, for the reasons I outlined above. This chick keeps talking about a lapse in judgment that I simply didn’t have, and therefore will never apologize for.
Incidentally, it’s fascinating to me that she followed a page she believes is a steaming pile of manufactured BS for “a few years now.”
I responded to her as follows:
Anyway, thankfully, there were plenty of reasonable, common sense folks on our FB wall who COMPLETELY GET ME, and who were as dumbfounded as I was about some of the reactions. One such person wrote us an email that I ended up reading back to back with the email above, and the contrast was spectacular.
It’s always nice to balance out the haters with the people who understand and appreciate us. THANK YOU – you know who y’all are!
Anyway, the good news is that Sinead is fine (for now), but y’all – she’s still a mess. And I hope she really does get some long-term, sustainable, effective help.
Because YIKES.
