I was scrolling through my Facebook wall when I saw this.
A younger girl in my sorority posted it, along with a long rant about how burkas and niqabs are beautiful and we need to be more respectful of them, and how Islam was the religion of peace, blah blah blah….
It’s legitimately freaky for brainwashed young people are about all of this. I mean, remember this? Younger generations are going so far as to defended ISIS in the name of Islam at this point.
Anyway, I couldn’t help myself, so I watched this whole video. You should too. It’s…. telling.
First, I actually think this is kind of sad. These girls are entirely brainwashed themselves. Their identity is wrapped up in completely covering themselves up, despite the fact that one of them outwardly admits she struggles with the tenets of the religion.
They argue that any religions practice “modesty.” Um…. modesty must mean something different to them than it does to me. To me it means making sure my ass isn’t hanging out of my shorts so that I don’t look like a hooch. To them? Covering everything but their eyes so that they do not tempt lustful men…. Yeeeeah not the same, buddy.
The questions are entirely reasonable, in my opinion, yet they seem to think the majority are soooo dumb and racist. Sorry I know nothing about wearing a black bag over my head, ok?
The weirdest part is where they talk about how they’re not affiliated with ISIS. Their reasoning? “We’re not BOYS.” Excuse me…. what? So if you were boys, would you be part of ISIS? Are your fathers, brothers, boyfriends, and husbands in ISIS? You’re not really helping your cause here…
They often bring up the point that it’s empowering that they have the “freedom” to wear their burqas. I have a hard time with that, seeing as it’s the very symbol of Muslim oppression of women, but whatever.
