According to this, people in China are just as humorless as people in the US.
Audi has a new commercial running in China , which shows a bride being physically inspected by her mother-in-law-to-be, is causing mass outrage on Chinese social media for being sexist.
Take a look.

Now, personally I think the commercial is dumb, but people who are freaking out about this and suggesting that it equates women to slaves and livestock have got to freaking LIGHTEN UP. Is everyone seriously this incapable of blowing off a silly TV ad now?
(That was rhetorical. Obviously, people ARE incapable of blowing it off, which is why I find myself writing a post about it.)
The point of the commercial is to promote Audi’s online trading platform for used cars, which also has people really riled up, because it means (to hypersensitive feminist harpies) that Audi is suggesting that women are objects and have no more value than used cars do. Or something.
And because feminist harpies are the squeakiest of wheels, Audi has naturally apologized. Their spokesperson said they “deeply regret” the ad and that it doesn’t “correspond to our company’s values.” The ad has been pulled. AND, according to the sourcelink, “Audi’s joint venture in China has started an investigation in response to the incident.” Because obviously we need to have a big fat expensive investigation into this stupid commercial, in order to make feminists feel better about themselves.
Audi, by the way, is one of the most popular car brands in China, but the overreacting perpetually offended crowd in China is calling for a boycott over this. Because of course.
Look. The ad was dumb, but it wasn’t something that people need to get in this much of a snit over.
EVERYONE CALM DOWN.
