The ACLU Doesn’t Want Female Genital Mutilation Criminalized Because It Might Hurt The FEEEEEEELINGS Of Muslims

Given the choice between standing up for women’s rights against a truly oppressive and tyrannical ideology, or letting said tyrannical ideology run wild because you’re too scared to oppose them… it’s nice to know that the ACLU stands with tyrannical oppressors.

According to this, legislators in Maine voted down a bill that would have made female genital mutilation in that state illegal and criminalized the act. The vote was thanks in part to the ACLU getting involved by saying that the criminal code didn’t need to be expanded because it would unfairly target “certain religious” groups (read: Muslims) –

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in Maine said FGM legislation is not worth expanding the criminal code. They released a statement saying, “This bill is nothing more than an attempt to single out behavior that is commonly attributed to certain religious and ethnic communities as different from other forms of abuse.”

Wait – your reaction to a state wanting to criminalize something that causes injury and death in thousands of women who are forced to undergo this procedure in the name of a vicious religion is to protect this “religion’s” right to brutalize women and girls? That preventing the abuse of women and girls is in and of itself abuse?

Yep. That’s their logic. Hang the human rights of these women. It’s more important that this batcrap insane religious order be allowed to perform disgusting and unnecessary “medical” procedures on women and girls.

I’m not holding my breath for any feminists to start squawking about this. But if they weren’t so hypocritical when it comes to women’s equality, they’d be screaming about it from the rooftops.
