Spicer-Greene Jewelers put up this super-clever and nostalgic-like and perfectly acceptable billboard over the Jeff Bowen Bridge in Asheville, North Carolina:
Naturally, because folks these days have ZERO sense of marketing, entrepreneurship, or humor, a handful of them freaked the flip out and protested. And because people on the left side of the aisle have done nothing but protest since November of last year.
According to the ABC local affiliate:
The owners of Spicer Greene Jewelers, Eva-Michelle Spicer, 28, and her husband Elliott, 27, started running the business about four years ago when Eva-Michelle’s parents started to ease themselves out to do more traveling, Spicer said.
The name changed from Wick & Greene to Spicer Greene last year in August, when the young couple officially took over. The store has been in operation since 1926 when it was opened by E.O. Wick.
It has changed names several times since then, becoming Pick Wick, then Wick & Hancock, then Wick & Greene, and finally Spicer Greene.
“The billboard was intent to be a nostalgic thought of a childhood teaching,” Eva-Michelle Spicer said. “That it’s not ok to throw rocks at girls, it’s not ok to throw rocks at anyone… It saddens me that it was taken that way, because it certainly wasn’t intended.”
Enter Chelsea Clinton – Twitter-Warrior!:
Thank goodness that happened. Otherwise I may have giggled again at that nostalgic, quirky billboard. And we can’t have humor OMG. We can’t have women laughing at things like this.
Especially Clintonbots.
But see – that’s the thing. Eva-Michelle Spicer, the owner, said she got the idea for the billboard from a “family aunt during last Thanksgiving dinner.”
“My grandmother laughed about it, we laughed about it,” Eva-Michelle said. “We thought, ‘OK that’s kinda cute and catchy, we’ll try it out.’ We definitely didn’t think it would have this kind of backlash.
You see that? She and other WOMEN in her family thought it was “cute and catchy.” Because they’re NORMAL. Huh. Go figure. But no matter – Eva-Michelle is planning on taking the billboard down in the next few weeks, and she apologized to the perpetually-offended, special snowflakes:
So she’s caving because of a few harpies who can’t read a billboard and see that it’s a PLAY ON WORDS (and consequently have nothing better to do with their time but freaking protest, mind you).
Why wouldn’t she fight back instead? Why can’t people be more like this woman-owned business in London who basically said, “hell no…we’re not taking our ad down. Suck it, haters.” (I’m paraphrasing. But you get the gist.)
We need more of that, sensible-female-business-owners and aspiring entrepreneurs. Letting protesters like this dictate to YOU what to do with your business is pretty stupid, especially when this probably isn’t your clientele anyway:

On a side note, my husband is WELCOME to throw gemstones at me anytime. I will not be offended, nor will I protest.
I hope you’re reading this, hon.
