TSA Pat-Down Video Sparks Widespread Outrage

There’s a new TSA pat-down video making the rounds on social media right now, and it’s sparking quite a bit of outrage.

Texas mom Jennifer Williamson posted this video of TSA agents at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport patting down her son, who has some sort of sensory processing disorder. Because of this, Williamson requested that agents check him a different way, but they declined her request, and this was the result. The pat-down lasted about 2 minutes. Keep in mind, he was subject to this because his laptop computer set off some sort of alarm.

Was that REALLY necessary? Pretty invasive, if you ask me. The boy wasn’t wearing a bunch of layers. Shorts and a t-shirt. Just watching it made me uncomfortable. I can’t imagine how the boy felt.

To make matters worse, Williamson said they were at the checkpoint for almost an hour and missed their flight.

TSA released the following statement to WFAA:

TSA allows for a pat-down of a teenage passenger, and in this case, all approved procedures were followed to resolve an alarm of the passenger’s laptop.

The video shows a male TSA officer explaining the procedure to the passenger, who fully cooperates. Afterward, the TSA officer was instructed by his supervisor, who was observing, to complete the final step of the screening process.

In total, the pat-down took approximately two minutes, and was observed by the mother and two police officers who were called to mitigate the concerns of the mother.

The passengers were at the checkpoint for approximately 45 minutes, which included the time it took to discuss screening procedures with the mother and to screen three carry-on items that required further inspection.”

Williamson still believes her son was patted down excessively.
