March 10, 2017I had absolutely no idea who Dan Bilzerian was until I saw this article. I started chatting to my husband about him, and it turns out Mr. Mock follows Bilzerian on Instagram. Bilzerian is a super rich (net worth around $100M), super muscular dude whose entire IG account consists of photos of his various cars and guns and piles of cash, but ALSO of photos of himself enjoying his enormous wealth, and enjoying the dozens of scantily clad women who are apparently constantly throwing themselves at him.
He’s like the manliest man in mansville, y’all. And he’s enormously popular – with over 21 MILLION followers on IG. He’s like the modern day Hugh Hefner.
Apparently, on International Women’s Day, Bilzerian posted one of his typical photos – in which he’s surrounded by barely-clothed women. Only in this particular photo, one of the women was sitting in a hot tub with him and several other women, and she was leaning over, and Bilzerian had a plate of food laying on her back. His caption on Twitter?
CUE THE OUTRAGE.
Is HE really the one degrading women here? Because what I’m seeing on his social media is a bunch of women voluntarily degrading themselves. They seem positively delighted to be objectified. If you scroll through his IG or Twitter photos, you’re going to see tons of photos of women smiling, posing in their bikinis, enjoying the exotic locations his money is allowing them to be in. I’d bet serious cash that none of those women are being held by him against their will. If that woman was willing to climb into a hot tub with Bilzerian and several other half-naked women, and serve as a table for his hot tub meal, then I’m not sure why anyone is blaming HIM for sharing a photo of it.
Perhaps Bilzerian pays these women to get them to drape themselves all over him in photos for his social media. I mean, regardless of whether they get an Actual Paycheck or simply benefit from the fabulous trips and meals, they’re being paid in one way or another. And it’s their choice, right? Shouldn’t we be celebrating how empowered they are? Because feminism, or something?
How often do you see amazingly young, fit, beautiful women hanging on old, ugly dudes who happen to be super wealthy? Answer: A lot. In Bilzerian’s case, he’s at least not old or ugly. But there is never a shortage of women who care more about money than their own dignity. So why should Bilzerian be faulted for paying the price they’re willing to be bought for?
Was his comment/caption crude and douchey? Sure. But no more so than the behavior of the woman who inspired it.
