TIME Magazine Wants Us All To Know That Donald Trump Is Going To Enslave Black People

Yep. You read that right.

I’ve gotta ask – is TIME really that hard-up for readership? Do they REALLY have to write the dumbest, crack-tastic BS in the hopes that people will come and see for themselves the over-the-top ridiculous click-bait circus that a once-great news source has been reduced to? Because that’s the only reason I would have clicked on this stupid thing (and it was great material for a post wherein I mock such idiocy).

The article – written by Tavis Smiley – is called “Why I Fear America Could Enslave Black People Again.” And, yes, the whole thing is as stupid as the headline sounds. And it’s all based on the idiotic liberal lie that Donald Trump’s slogan “Make America Great Again” means that he wants to take America back to a time when black people were slaves, women couldn’t vote, and gay people were locked in the closet. It’s typical Democrat scare tactics, just taken up to eleven.

To set up the article, Smiley refers to a speaking event where he talked about the election at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA –

When I hear Donald Trump suggest that he wants to “make America great again,” it always triggers the same three questions in my head.

One: How is Trump defining “greatness”? I’m not sure he and I share an understanding of what makes a nation truly great. For me, it starts with how you treat the children, the poor, the aged and infirmed, how you embrace equality as you labor for equity. Equality means that everyone gets the same in America, whether they need it or not. Equity says we commit to ensuring that all fellow citizens have the basic resources that will give them commensurate opportunities to contribute meaningfully to our society.

Two: Since so many fellow citizens have yet to experience the true “greatness” of America for the first time, for whom are we making America great again?

And, three: To what specific period of American greatness are you wanting us to return? When black folk suffered segregation after slavery? When women had no right to vote or control their own bodies? When gay brothers and lesbian sisters felt ceaseless hate? When we stole land from the Native Americans? When we sent Japanese families to internment camps? When America lynched Mexicans? I just need Trump to give me some clarity on the time period he wishes to travel back to.

The stupid. It burns. And Smiley REEEEEALLY needs to revisit the definition of “equality.”

Supposedly during his Q&A session, a student rather conveeeeeeeeniently asked the following question (I’m skeptical, because Democrats sure love coming up with random anonymous people with sob stories meant specifically to make the points they wish to make at any given time) –

But at the conclusion of my talk, I was introduced to another question that still haunts me. I had handled most of the closing Q&A questions. Then one student hit me with this:

“Mr. Smiley, do you believe that given the crisis state of our democracy, we black folk could ever find ourselves enslaved again?”

Whoa. Didn’t see that one coming. Neither did the mostly white audience. A quiet fell over the room. I swallowed hard.

Looking directly at the student, I could see he was dead serious, and I wanted to treat his question with the soberness it deserved. But, truthfully, I stumbled as I began to respond, not knowing how to properly frame my response.

My answer? Yes.

I’m going to be fair to Smiley and his unnamed little friend at Lehigh University and say that we set aside CENTURIES of the abolitionist movement – both in America and in Europe. Let’s set aside the fact that America fought a Civil War meant to (among other things) end slavery, where THOUSANDS of Americans on both side of the conflict lost their lives and families and property were utterly destroyed. Let’s set aside the fact that there are several Constitutional amendments ending slavery and extending voting rights to every American citizen, regardless of race. Let’s set aside the fact that less than a decade ago, America elected a black man to be president. Shoot, I’ll even set aside the fact that the Republican Party was founded in large part to end slavery America and it was racist Democrats who fought against ending slavery AND the Civil Rights Movement up to and throughout the 1960s and only recently started painting themselves as the best friends the black community have, as long as blacks continued to vote for Democrats without a single positive thing in return (historical facts are stubborn things).

Take out all of that and let’s just look at common human decency and morality.

I know Democrats are fond of referring to the current year to talk about such things – but does Tavis Smiley really think in this day and age of 2016 that America would willingly go back to a time when it was legal for human being to OWN other human beings??

If that is true, then America has MUCH bigger problems than Donald Trump. And those problems were probably there before he decided to run for office.

Smiley’s “evidence” for white American being thisclose to re-instituting slavery amounts to… Republicans in Congress refuse to hold confirmation hearings on Obama’s Supreme Court nominee to fill the vacancy left by Justice Antonin Scalia’s death. That’s it. That’s all he’s got. And while I disagree with the Republicans’ decision in doing that (that’s another topic we’ve covered at length), that is certainly no basis for suggesting that white Republicans are getting ready to round up black people and open the slave auctions again (though – if memory serves – the last time Americans were rounded up and locked up based on their race and nothing else, a Democrat president was in office. Franklin Roosevelt and the Japanese Internment Camps, anyone?)

And it’s pretty rich of Smiley to task Congress to task for disrespecting the Constitution, when freaking President Obama always wants to bypass the laws with his executive orders, force his will on the American people, and boss everyone around. If we’re going by that metric, Smiley could ask Obama if he’d issue an executive order to let black people enslave whites (I’m sure nothing would bring the Cult of Social Justice more joy than that).

As vapid and empty as “Make America Great Again” is – as well as Hillary’s equally-meaningless “Stronger Together” slogan – I do get the sentiment behind it. Before Obama, Americans believed in America. America isn’t a place – America is an idea. American ideals are that anyone who wants to be free, can be. That you can live your life without fear of the government. You can build a life for yourself without some tyrannical overlord looking to steal it from you. That you can protect yourself and your family and provide for them. That you can worship (or not worship) God as you choose. That you can speak your mind without being targeted for punishment or violence. That your skin color is about as important as your hair or eye color when it comes to judging your worth as a human being (that is to say, not at all).

Have you felt like any of those things applied since Barack Obama got into office? I haven’t. I’ve felt like my human rights have been slowly disappearing, all in the name of political correctness. And I’m sick of it.

So, no. Black people aren’t going to be enslaved by Donald Trump. That’s not what his campaign slogan means. Thanks for playing, but go peddle your dishonest scare tactics somewhere else.
