If you’ve ever listened to Andrew Klavan, you’ve probably heard him refer to The New York Times as “a former newspaper.” And it’s crap like this is why.
The Fishwrap of Record has written an editorial called “The Corrosive Politics That Threaten LGBT Americans.” That’s right. It’s not ISIS throwing gays off buildings or murdering them in nightclubs that’s the biggest threat to the LGBT community. It’s those MEEEEEEEEEAN and hateful Republicans who terrorize LGBT people with their disagreements over politics and opinion.
While the precise motivation for the rampage remains unclear, it is evident that Mr. Mateen was driven by hatred toward gays and lesbians. Hate crimes don’t happen in a vacuum. They occur where bigotry is allowed to fester, where minorities are vilified and where people are scapegoated for political gain. Tragically, this is the state of American politics, driven too often by Republican politicians who see prejudice as something to exploit, not extinguish.

Yet, that fight remains far from over. Since the marriage ruling, several Republican-led state legislatures and Republican governors and federal lawmakers have redoubled their fight against legal protections for people on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. So far this year, more than 200 anti-L.G.B.T. bills have been introduced in 34 states.
See, the Times thinks that Omar Mateen was inspired to shoot up the Pulse nightclub in Orlando because Republicans don’t like same-sex marriage. And that opposition to same-sex marriage and transgender bathrooms is the same as walking into a place where gay people are (whether that’s a nightclub or a pride festival) and killing them.
NEVER MIND that Mateen made a 911 call while he was shooting up the nightclub to OPENLY DECLARE that he was doing this in the name of ISIS. NEVER MIND that the guy had been suspected of connections to ISIS. NEVER MIND that his co-workers reported his openly homophobic and misogynist comments that were based in Islam. Nope. This is allllll because Republicans and conservatives were opposed to same-sex marriage and don’t want perverts taking advantage of policies that make it okay for grown men to share bathrooms with little girls.
I would ask if The New York Times editorial board is high, but that would be a redundant question. I really shouldn’t be surprised that they think conservative Americans are the same as terrorists. I mean, college kids think that hearing opposing viewpoints is the same as rape and murder and they need trigger warnings to listen to it. Why shouldn’t a major American (former) newspaper say practically the same thing?
