The White House Correspondents’ Dinner was Saturday night. It was Obama’s last. *wipes away tears* But it’s OK, because all the celebs were there and had a grand time. Like, Kendall Jenner and Emma Watson were there, so obviously, that was a big deal.
In all reality, the White House Correspondents’ Dinner is nothing more than a self-indulgent love fest. It’s everyone’s chance to feel important and cool, and it’s Obama’s chance to feel like THE Celebrity-in-Chief for the very last time.
But you know we have to talk about it. Here are some highlights from Obama’s address, which was mediocre at best.
He took some jabs at Hillionaire:
Obama: Clinton trying to appeal to young voters is like your old relative signing up for Facebook #WHCD https://t.co/dvGTcjb3eJ

.@POTUS: "Bernie's slogan has helped his campaign catch fire… Hillary's slogan has not had the same effect." #WHCD pic.twitter.com/NCrIIeVXuA

And The Donald:
"I'm a little hurt [@realDonaldTrump] isn't here tonight," says @POTUS at #WHCD: https://t.co/FxGpBQ42Tk https://t.co/jIJHpvm8bA
— CBS News (@CBSNews) May 1, 2016
Obama on Trump missing #WHCD: "Is he at home eating a Trump steak, tweeting out insults to Angela Merkel?" https://t.co/4f6uPwV9En

And Bernie Sanders:

And John Kasich:

And Ted Cruz:
.@POTUS: "@tedcruz… called the hoop a basketball ring. What else is in his lexicon? Baseball sticks?" #WHCD pic.twitter.com/GmGoquyBpE

And Jake Tapper:

And he joked about chilling with Boehner:
Boehner makes a cameo in Obama’s #WHCD speech. “I finally got the grand bargain on a sweet Chevy Tahoe.” pic.twitter.com/vkIg5u5pQp

I don't know why Boehner is unpopular with conservatives. Really, I can't imagine why. #WHCD pic.twitter.com/lg1SfHXOpV

(Oddly enough, Boehner still can’t figure out why everyone hates him.)
I didn’t enjoy Obama’s address, and it’s not because I don’t like him. I just didn’t think it was funny. Self-deprecating humor is the best, and while he incorporated some, there wasn’t much. His jab at Hillz was the best part.
Other than that, I felt like I was watching a Capitol dinner from The Hunger Games. Just being honest here. Your mileage may vary.
