Almost 10 years ago, Al Gore attended a Sundance film festival screening of “An Inconvenient Truth” and said we were facing “a true planetary emergency.” In fact, the fearmonger claimed we had 10 years to take drastic steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions or face “the point of no return.”
“We have to organize quickly to come up with a coherent and really strong response, and that’s what I’m devoting myself to,” he said at the time.
The “point of no return” is a few weeks away. How’s the crisis shaping up?
Here’s a chart showing satellite data since 1979. As you can see, not much has changed since 2006.
Global temperatures haven’t really changed in the last 10 years, and the recent mini spikes have nothing to do with greenhouse gas emissions and everything to do with the current El Niño.
Here’s another chart, which according to Gore, should basically look like hell.
Mhm. A “true planetary emergency” indeed.
