Facebook Activates ‘Safety Feature’ In Wake Of Paris Massacre

On Friday, bloodthirsty terrorists killed at least 127 people and injured dozens more in Paris. 

People have been flocking to social media to make sure their loved ones are safe. Most of those missing were attendees at the Bataclan concert hall. Friends and family members are using the hashtag RechercheParis, which mean “Search Paris” to located them.

Can you even imagine?

In the wake of the attacks, Facebook activated its incredibly handy “safety check” feature.

Users in Paris are now being sent notifications by Facebook’s mobile app, asking them whether they are safe, and offering to check on any of their friends.

Twitter users have also responded, urging citizens to offer shelter to anyone in need, using #PorteOuverte.

Someone I actually went to college with was in the Paris area, but I knew she was alright because she marked it on Facebook. Sure, the social media giant does a lot of stupid things now and then (like giving people 19376392 gender options), but they were right on the money with this one. It’s a great feature.

I can’t say this enough. My heart goes out to those in Paris. Prayers, prayers, prayers.
