Dear Emma Watson – just because the Harry Potter screenwriters gave Hermione all of Ron Weasley’s good lines doesn’t make you this grand high spokeswoman for females everywhere.
Miss Watson’s latest foray into claiming that rampant sexism is a problem in Hollywood is to talk about the number of male directors she’s worked with, versus the number of female directors. Never mind that it was a MALE director (Chris Columbus) who originally cast her as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies, thus making her a household name and ensuring that she would assume we would give a flying Hippogriff turd about her opinions for the rest of her life –

So… because she’s had more male bosses than female bosses, that automatically means she’s been discriminated against? Does that mean that men who work in female-dominated fields (like nursing or teaching) also experience sexism by default? I’m guessing not because – liberals.
(It’s funny how actors in liberal Hollywood talk about how racist and sexist and bigoted liberal Hollywood is, yet it’s conservatives who are supposedly the REAL racists and sexists and bigots.)
Yeah, no. That’s not how this works. Emma Watson doesn’t get to cry about her so-called “oppression” from an industry that pulled her out of total obscurity when she was ten years old and made her piles and piles of money and ensured that she would never go without an acting job for the rest of her life.
The funny thing is that she is actually in a position to CHOOSE to work with only female directors. Emma Watson is a big enough celebrity and her name carries enough weight in the movie industry by now that she could make that a condition of her being cast and the studios would bend over backwards to find a female director to work with her. Now, whether or not that female director is the right fit for the movie they’re making is another story. But as long as the director has boobs and a uterus and a XX chromosome – good enough for Princess Emma Watson!
Seriously, lady. Stop complaining about it. Put your opinions in action and see how that works out for you.
