According to this, an 89-year old WWII vet, Bernard Jordan, had absolutely no intention of missing out on the D-Day events being held in France yesterday, despite his nursing home in the UK advising him that he would not be able to go.
So you know what he did? He snuck out and freaking WENT.
Bernarnd Jordan put all of his medals on under his raincoat and hightailed it to Normandy.
The nursing home called the cops, the cops searched the area and checked hospitals and bus and taxi companies, but found no sign of him, until another young vet came forward and explained that Bernard was on a bus to Normandy, that he was fine, and that he was in a hotel in Ouistreham. Some hours later, Bernard called the nursing home himself to assure them that his friends would see him back safely after the D-Day celebrations wrapped up.
Seriously, how much do you want to HUG him?

And now that he's back, he had this to say about it.
"I would do it again tomorrow."
Can you just even stand it?
LOOK AT HIS FACE, you guys. LOOK AT IT.

Bernard's wife Irene lives with him at the nursing home, and Bernard said she knew of his plan the whole time. "My wife knew I was going – she supported me. I'm really pleased I did it and I'll do it again next year if I'm still here," he said.
Bernard turns 90 this week.
